Apparently when King George died, all sports continued.
When Diana died, all sports were postponed.
All womans boxing card October 15th good or bad idea? (R.I.P Queen)

lol, did he really !?
Worse than Deontay's heavy costume !
I get Horse Racing being cancelled 'cos the Queen was a huge figure in that sport, but I think it's nuts to cancel this fight. Hopefully Sky agree. I'm fairly confident it goes ahead.

It’s only The Sun but -
The Government has contacted sports bodies to make it clear they have the final say on whether fixtures should be played - with a green light if there are suitable marks of respect paid.

I suppose it depends on whether the board wish to suspend all professional boxing this weekend. Haven't seen any statement from them as yet, not even the basic condolences message.
Re: All womans boxing card September 10th good or bad idea?
I mis-read the statement, you're correct.

Re: All womans boxing card September 10th good or bad idea?
This seems really archaic.
The government can literally tell ALL sports bodies they have to cancel sport and the serfs and peasants have to fall in line?
Re: All womans boxing card September 10th good or bad idea?
Being a glass half full sort of chap, I read that to mean the government were saying the sporting bodies had the final say.
Looks like the BBBofC are cancelling other shows. Not looking good for this card.

Ahhh yes… I see. And I have just heard the Sports Minister say there is no law in place to prevent sporting events….

A big boxing card for women.. two very good fights.. Having to be called off due to the Queen's passing.
Re: All womans boxing card September 10th good or bad idea?
Let's wait and see what happens. Hope the BBBofC follow the precedent from when King George VI died on 6 February 1952 - shows took place in the UK on Thursday 7 Feb (i.e. the day after the King's death), Friday 8 Feb and Saturday 9 Feb, with steps being taken at shows to mark his passing. George VI was a big fan of boxing - BN had suitable photos and tribute on the cover of the 13 Feb issue (as it was published on a Wednesday back then), the first issue published after his death.

The government have no right to take money out of anyone's pockets especially in the middle of a living crisis, if the royal family really gave a fck then they'd leave it up to peoples discretion, they'll be plenty of tributes being paid but now people will be left financially out of pocket
A couple of years ago I couldn't care less about independence etc I just wanted what's best but fck the Tories and the royals, hopefully my kids will live in a world free of conservatives and royals when their older

The football in England has been cancelled this weekend. I’m not quite sure why. It makes me wonder if other sports will follow suit.

Tough luck if you're on a zero hours contract and your days work is cancelled nowhandsofstone wrote: ↑09 Sep 2022, 06:26 The government have no right to take money out of anyone's pockets especially in the middle of a living crisis, if the royal family really gave a fck then they'd leave it up to peoples discretion, they'll be plenty of tributes being paid but now people will be left financially out of pocket

Re: All womans boxing card September 10th good or bad idea?
Your point about "I'm not quite sure why" hits the nail on the head. Whatever people think of the Royal family or the current government, to my knowledge neither of them have said to sports administrative bodies "you must cancel everything". And, per my post above, no boxing was cancelled at the death of George VI. In football, there appears to have been a pretty full programme of fixtures in England on Saturday 9 February 1952. So there is no historical precedent for cancellation. If sports do cancel, it may be administrators not knowing their history, trying excessively hard to do the right thing only to end up doing entirely the wrong thing. Keep calm and carry on, etc.maverick23 wrote: ↑09 Sep 2022, 06:50 The football in England has been cancelled this weekend. I’m not quite sure why. It makes me wonder if other sports will follow suit.

Surely for this event to still be up in the air, it must mean that discussions are taking place around what will be implemented to ensure the show is going to tick all the required boxes, with regards to the paying of respects.
My glass is still half full.

I bet if it was a PPV card there is no way they'd cancel it

Re: All womans boxing card September 10th good or bad idea?
This is a fairly significant card, featuring perhaps the biggest contest possible in women's boxing (at least in the UK).
Athletes train to a date. Boxers particularly, sparring to a schedule and tapering so they peak at the right time.
It wouldn't be fair to ask them to come off their peaks and work to another date. It would impact the integrity of the result.
Add to that the financial impacts of everyone involved, including the fans, and it makes sense to go ahead, but in a respectful manner.

Poor girls. Truly.
It’s not like it can be rearranged for 3 weeks… it’s gonna be early next year I’d imagine.
Clarissa probs already spent that mil on necklaces, too.

I hope it goes ahead but if it had to be postponed why couldn't it be 2 or 3 weeks (as long as the venue is available)
When Trinidad v Hopkins was postponed after 9/11 it was held two weeks later.
