You mighi have seen this picture or a similar ne=the 5 Zivic brothers out of Pittsburg. Fritzie beat Henry Armstroing for the title.Jack and Pete fought in the Olympics. They were Croats, but could be mistaken for Latinos. They were the first brothers I thought of .orbtastic wrote: ↑07 Sep 2022, 08:58 I think I have asked this before but it's still bugging me.
I saw what I assume was an old 50s photo of at least 4 or 5 brothers, lined up in the ring. All looking very similar, wearing white t-shirts and dark hair. Possibly Latino.
Can anyone think of 5 boxing brothers? I will scour back through my old boxing photo books but I am fairly sure I saw it online

Re: boxing brothers
Joe and Herbert Choynski.
there were 2 other Choynski brothers but dont know if they ever fought.
( one of which just answered the door and gave Corbett a smart-as*sed remark when Corbett came a calling on Golden Gate Avenue)
BTW Jim Corbett knocked out both Choynsky Brothers in the same evening
but that was before they had taken boxing lessons in San Franscico.

Not sure if you are referring to the brothers known over here as "The Fighting Sands". Six brothers in total.... Dave Sands was by far the most accomplished.... he held the MW, LHW and HW Australian titles.... The Commonwealth MW title, which he won off Dick Turpin.... and was on the verge of a world title shot when he tragically passed in an automobile accident....
Bobo Olsen famously said after winning the MW title, that if he were alive the belt would surely belong to Sands.....
Very recently his Grandson led a project to build a new memorial at the site where Sands' truck crashed....
Re: boxing brothers
hm they do look very familiar (I don't think it is the Zivic brothers but thanks for that)
The photo I saw was a gym shot, either in the ring or just out of it. All wearing white t-shirts and looking familiar. It's bugging me, I will scour my books and see if I can find it.

That's incorrect. That's not true. And that's not factual.Caractacus wrote: ↑13 Sep 2022, 14:55 Joe and Vince Dundee were the first brothers to win boxing titles

It was the great Abe Attell, former featherweight world champion and his brother Monte, the Bantamweight champion of the world as the first 2 brothers to become world champions in boxing.
Re: boxing brothers
I believe Don and Bruce Curry are the first boxing brothers to hold world titles simultaneously, back in 1983, a feat later emulated by the Galaxy twins.

that , The Dundee brothers were not AMONG the first brothers to win world boxing titles ?
Joe Dundee won the welterweight title in 1927 (lost it in 1929)
and Vince Dundee won the Middleweight title in 1933. (lost it in 1934)
and as the great Casey Stengel once said "....And you Could look it Up !".

Joe and Vince Dundee were the first brothers to become world boxing champions after moving to America from their homeland of Italy. Vince beat Lou Brouillard by a 15-round unanimous decision to win the New York State World Middleweight Championship and the National Boxing Association World Middleweight Title. He defended the belts twice while fighting several non-title bouts while champion. Dundee was just 41 when he died in 1949 a decade after retiring with a record of 118-19-14 and 29 Kos. His older brother Joe went 85-22-11 with 25 Kos between 1919 and 1931. He captured the World Welterweight Title by beating Pete Latzo via 15-round majority decision in 1927 and lost it two years later when he was disqualified after two rounds against Jackie Fields.
Re: boxing brothers
Upon further review Elmer is actually correct. The Attells both won titles around 20 years prior to the Dundees.oogiebe wrote: ↑14 Sep 2022, 16:38Sorry Elmer. Caractacus is correct.Caractacus wrote: ↑14 Sep 2022, 13:30whats not correct , true or even factual ?elmersalsa wrote: ↑13 Sep 2022, 23:29

I ranked the great Abe Attell in the thread of the 100 Greatest Pound per pound fighters of all-time. Well, nobody wanted to read about him, I guess.
Nobody wanted to discuss about Attell. And this is what happens.

Re: boxing brothers
C'mon Man are you serious ?
Monte Attell
A "World Boxing "title" holder ?
who exactly did he beat to win the Bantamweight title anyway ?
never heard this before, so
I looked it up .
he fought for the Batam weight title twice
and was KO'd in both attempts.
In 1905 he lost to Jimmy Walsh ( KO'd in round 6)
and in 1910 he fought for the Bantamweight title against Frank Conley
and was KO'd in the 42nd round !
how do you figure he ever became the champion ?

Monte took the vacant World Bantamweight title on June 19, 1909 by defeating the 1904 bantamweight title holder Frankie Neil. He held the title until February 22, 1910.Caractacus wrote: ↑15 Sep 2022, 13:31 C'mon Man are you serious ?

if so, whom did he win it from ?
yeah, but weren't there others who also claimed the Batamweight Championship around the same time ?
and don't you think something like this this detracts from the Dundee brothers accomplishment of winning their
undisputed welterweight and middleweight championships ?
Re: boxing brothers
Originally from Dunkirk New York, there was the Mustcato Brothers (Joe, Phil and Sammy) who fought out of the Buffalo New York area. Recall my Father mentioning one fought Billy Conn and one was ranked in the top ten as a heavyweight.
