Re: Arslanbek Makhmudov vs. Carlos Takam - September 16, 2022
Takem takes the last round clear.
Even with the knockdowns i could have this either way (expect clear mak on judges cards though)
Ref let mak get away with a lot, more than i think he should have.
Overall i think takem won the fight (as a whole), But scoring round by round and having 2 rounds where you won most of the round but were knocked down kills that and makes it very very hard to win a decision.

mak won it for me and i had no doubts about decision. if you scored those 10-8s you need to give takam at least 7 other 8 to have him winning, which i couldnt do., but not impressive at all. big power, but not much else
still, i like watching him. he will probably be ko'd spectacularly in a fun fight some time

Wasn't impressed at all with Makhmudov but I had him winning clearly; 7-3 in rounds.
Re: Arslanbek Makhmudov vs. Carlos Takam - September 16, 2022
Makhmudov has some things to work on.
If you take out the two knockdown we have a total different fight.
Good performance by Takam.

Re: Arslanbek Makhmudov vs. Carlos Takam - September 16, 2022
Added up my scores (just from my comments) and i think i had it 96-94 to mak couple of KDs couple of 10-10s and a couple of close 10-9s.
The 2nd knockdown round i had takem dominating untill that landed in the last 10 seconds, so really that punch is what swung the fight on my card.
my take aways is Maks not great but a fun slugger, Takems a genetic freak beast (if natrual). Ref was pretty weak. but the right man won (even if im not convinced it was the better man.)

if takam had a bit more chin and power he could be a beast. he wins rounds vs these guys, but their power gets to him and he cant dent them enough

If you can't clearly conclusively beat a 40+ year old shop worn Takem, then the future is not bright.

Lol at Mak and everyone who was sold on him.

Re: Arslanbek Makhmudov vs. Carlos Takam - September 16, 2022
takam is no push over. categorizing him as a 'smaller' heavyweight is just wrong.
at 6'2 he isn't the tallest but that doesn't mean shit in boxing.
the french veteran is tough as nails, got the reach of a much taller man and is built like a fvckin' gorilla. 260 pounds of solid muscle.
still a tough fight for anybody.
mak did the job.
his power is undeniable. the dirty shit he constantly pulls is absolutely unnecessary.
the pushing & rabbit punching is a bad habit and could become a real problem with a different ref.
if he can't cut it out & get's dq'ed in an eliminator for a title shot, his career as a challenger could be over faster than he can count to 3.

Takam 260 lbs full of muscles "small heavyweight" LOL. Makhmudov has a lot of word to do, not good sign at age of 33
Re: Arslanbek Makhmudov vs. Carlos Takam - September 16, 2022
Prime Takam would confidently deal with Mak.

The scores were 96-92, 97-91 and 96-92.
Re: Arslanbek Makhmudov vs. Carlos Takam - September 16, 2022
Takam deserved a win. Mak scored a KD in the first, he won that round, but went clueless after it, as he wasn't able to finish Takam. Mak was effortless until the 6th. The 7th was good for Takam, except the ending with a flash KD. The 8th was close. At the end Mak was quite clueless again. Takam was in control for the majority of the action.
Re: Arslanbek Makhmudov vs. Carlos Takam - September 16, 2022
Just watched the highlights. Takam looked in good shape for his age. Makhmudov has a way to go before he's top level with not much time. Could he just be Wilder 2.0 with KO power and nothing else?
Re: Arslanbek Makhmudov vs. Carlos Takam - September 16, 2022
Wilder is better, he can at least throw a jab and move a bit. His timing is much better. Mak can just bully the lesser opposition, he hasn't shown any boxing at all up to the date.

Re: Arslanbek Makhmudov vs. Carlos Takam - September 16, 2022
Lets not forget other up-and-coming heavyweights had their poor fights.
Fury was knocked down by Pajkic, and should have lost to John McDermott. Wilder was knocked down by low-level journeymen in Nichols and Sconiers.
Makhmudov won, after facing a adversity for the first time in his pro career. That adversity will hopefully make him a better fighter, perhaps he'll do better in his next fight.
Although he clearly won the fight and the scorecards were okay, I thought the referee allowed Makhmudov to get away with too much holding and leaning.
Makhmudov said after the fight he was surprised by Takam's resistance. “Honestly, I didn't expect him to be in such good shape, because I saw his recent fights and he was getting tired (in the later rounds). That's why I was in no rush (to stop him). But I'm happy because I had never done 10 rounds," Makhmudov said.

I guess we should put it for a vote on the BoxRec top 15..
Don’t see many voting him in on the back of that.
Takam isn’t the worst boxer. He has given many a tough test.
Will post it later today.

If Takam did better than expected. Big Mak is not a boxer and will never win a major match by outboxing someone decent. My takeaway is Big Mak beat a top 30 fighter who was up for the match. This is a good experience fight and one that will make him better. He proved he is going the bust, but be a player in the division. Who faces him next will be interesting.

How would Mak do against Zhang, or Hrg do against Takam?CMCanavessi wrote: ↑17 Sep 2022, 10:31Hrgovic did much worse (at least half saw him lose) vs Zhang and he was still voted in.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑17 Sep 2022, 08:28 I guess we should put it for a vote on the BoxRec top 15..

These are questions we need answering.
Re: Arslanbek Makhmudov vs. Carlos Takam - September 16, 2022
Zhang is also a lot more of an unknown than Takam. I didn't watch the full fight but based on the results, Mak should overtake Hrgovic and there could even be arguments to be made that a win over Takam, even at his current age, is better than recent wins held by Pulev, Sanchez, Helenius, Wallin, Ortiz and Bakole. I'm not sure I'd argue all of them myself but I'm sure some would consider Takam a better win than wins over Forrest, Hughie, Ajagba, Hammer, Kownacki, Breazeale, Martin, Yoka and Kuzmin.CMCanavessi wrote: ↑17 Sep 2022, 10:31Hrgovic did much worse (at least half saw him lose) vs Zhang and he was still voted in.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑17 Sep 2022, 08:28 I guess we should put it for a vote on the BoxRec top 15..

Agree. I didn't like the way Mak fought. I think he showed a lot of limitations, lack of initiative, and also Takam being smart (crouching and exploiting his smaller size) played a role. In my opinion, Mak's value decreased yesterday, but it's a better win than the ones most of the recent contenders have had.joshj909 wrote: ↑17 Sep 2022, 10:46Zhang is also a lot more of an unknown than Takam. Remember that Takam was dominating Joyce, before the (controversial) stoppage.
