Re: Joe Joyce vs. Joseph Parker | ESPN - September 24, 2022
To be fair, Oleksandr Usyk was in the final months of his amateur career when fought Joe Joyce, and had competed in roughly 350 bouts (winning 96% of them).
Whereas Joe Joyce only took up the boxing until he was 22 years of age.
And by his own admission, he only started taking the sport seriously when he realised he was good at it.
It’s been almost a decade since Joyce and Usyk faced each other in the WSB.

Everything went according to the expectations. Joyce started slow, but overwhelmed Parker. The real class of Parker has been ultimately revealed. He is a mediocre boxer. Joyce is probably even worse in boxing, but sometimes toughness prevails, while Joyce has tons of it. Too big, too strong, too durable.

I guess I'm eating crow. Parker just never delivers. Fair play to Joyce, but the guy is a freaking human punching bag. His chin is unreal. I'm appalled at anyone calling this man brilliant or intelligent. He looks like the kind of guy that licks bus windows. Outside of Usyk, I can't imagine anyone being able to keep him off.
Wilder would be a funny one. Even better would be Gassiev, imo.

Apart from Usyk, who is the absolute worst opponent style wise, Joyce would have a strong chance against anyone else at HW.
Meanwhile, Fury still can't find his pen to sign his own contract against AJ, doesn't want any part of Usyk, would never fight Joyce, and seems to be trying to sell us yet another Chisora fight.
Re: Joe Joyce vs. Joseph Parker | ESPN - September 24, 2022
Maybe Fury? He has enough movement to avoid a lot of Joyce, but as we saw today - the guy is bloody relentless!Thomastearns wrote: ↑25 Sep 2022, 05:10

If Wilder was relaxed enough to pull the trigger on his #1 weapon and didn't end up breaking his hand on Joe's face, then maybe. But I don't think Joyce would give Wilder the opportunity to set up his right hand.
So Uysk is the only guy I would risk a bet on.

Joyce will handle everyone, except Fury and Usyk. Those two are skilled and elusive enough to outbox Joyce. Apart from them, no one from the current top roster will be able to deal with the relentless pressure.

Some of the punches Parker landed were great. Would have dropped most guys. Unfortunately last night, he was in there with Michael Myers.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑24 Sep 2022, 20:50
My only concern is whether the sustained beating Parker received from Joyce will adversely affect his mindset entering future bouts. The Kiwi took a brutal pummeling.
I also believe he should have done hit and move and box more.. but he said he’d trade and that’s what he did. You just can’t do that with Joyce.
I do think the KO blow was good.. but at that point Parker was probably more exhausted than anything.

Excellent fight. Joyce is relentless. Arguably has the best chin and engine in the division. I liked how Parker was putting a lot behind his punches, he possibly would've got the KO against anyone else.
Re: Joe Joyce vs. Joseph Parker | ESPN - September 24, 2022
Parker just wouldn't be able to land such telegraphing swings on any living body. Only Joyce could allow it, cause he doesn't feel anything.

I totally missed this fight. Unbelievable.
Imagine Joyce vs Wilder! Holy shit how fun would that be. Surely Joyce couldn’t stay on his feet there. Even with that chin.

Wilder would break his hand early and you’ll know this because he’ll stop throwing it.Bard of Boxrec wrote: ↑25 Sep 2022, 07:25 I totally missed this fight. Unbelievable.

Btw how did you miss it?
Where were you?
Re: Joe Joyce vs. Joseph Parker | ESPN - September 24, 2022
Fury would play with him. Usyk would play with him. Wilder could hurt him, but that fight is very intriguing. Frank Sanchez would outbox him.

Re: Joe Joyce vs. Joseph Parker | ESPN - September 24, 2022
some of what Joyce said
On the win over Joseph Parker
“I’m just over the moon, it’s great, man! That was a tough fight. I got through it. I trained hard for this, so did Joseph Parker. I’m quite happy with my performance. I think I have to watch it back to see what I have to improve. I mean, I always take shots, but I’m exciting to watch, I guess.”
On what message he thinks he sent to Fury or Usyk
“I’m here. ‘The Juggernaut’s’ here, baby. [laughing] That’s enough talking. Slowly getting better, I hope! But yeah.”
On the finish of the fight
“What a tough guy! It’s hard to — I was hitting him with everything and, like, I saw the cut opening up and I thought maybe the ref might have a look at it, but he stuck in there. I was just, like, trying to knock him down — body shot after body shot, head shot after head shot. What a tough guy. A warrior. A lot of respect to him.”
On being told it was a left hook that finished: “Aw, yeah, sick. Yeah, I’ll have to watch it back.”
On whether Parker hurt him
“Yeah, there’s a few shots that, if I go back and try to remember — yeah, he’s a tough guy, and strong shots, as well. I really had to, like, dig deep and push forward, because he was really tough and fighting all the way to the end.”
On what he said to Parker after the fight
“It’s just respect. I could shake his hand now, because the fight’s over and we could be nice again.”
On what could come next
“I’ll fight Tyson Fury, no problem, but hopefully Usyk next. ... Usyk! Let’s get it on, my friend.”

No doubt.
Parker could have quit anytime after the 8th but he kept going.
Kept trying to get Joyce to walk on to a big shot by playing possum. It must take something special to carry on when you know that even your best punch is not having much effect.
Even got up after that devastating knockdown in the 11th when his eyes told a sorry story, but Joseph Parker is one who prefers to be carried out on his own shield rather than quit.
Joe Joyce, after years of criticism, has now certainly shook up the heavyweight scene, first Daniel Dubois and now Joseph Parker.

There was an article earlier last week that said Joyce's bone density is five times that of an average man while most athletes in contact sports have bone density three times the average man.
