Natasha Jonas vs. Marie-Eve Dicaire | Sky Sports - 12 November 2022

Press Release

Natasha Jonas, Dalton Smith, Frazer Clarke and many more will light up a blockbuster night of boxing on Saturday, 12th November.

The unified world WBC, WBO, IBF and Ring Magazine super-welterweight titles will all be on the line at the AO Arena in Manchester, England when Natasha ‘Miss GB’ Jonas faces defending Marie-Eve Dicaire.

Jonas (12-2-1, 8 KOs) conquered Patricia Berghult for the WBC belt earlier this month in her home city of Liverpool. The coveted green strap joined her pink WBO belt in her trophy cabinet – and now the former Olympian wants to add Dicaire’s IBF belt and Ring Magazine titles to her collection and write herself another glorious chapter in boxing’s history books.

Her quest for global domination takes Jonas into a clash with Canada’s two-time world champion Dicaire (18-1-0, 1 KO) in what promises to be a momentous world championship encounter with all three titles on the line.

Coming just weeks after a historic night of celebration for women’s boxing takes place on October 15th at The O2 in London – when Savannah Marshall faces Claressa Shields for the undisputed middleweight world titles – the contest further highlights the strength of the women’s sport in what has been a gala year for female boxing.

Southpaw Dicaire suffered her only professional defeat to date to Shields back in March 2021 following a unanimous decision. But she reclaimed her then vacant IBF title when she produced a stunning stoppage win over Cynthia Lozano last December in Montreal.

The main event between Jonas and Diclaire in Manchester tops the bill in what promises to be an unmissable BOXXER bill screened live and exclusively in the UK and Republic of Ireland on Sky Sports Boxing.

It includes a tantalising domestic co-main event between two of the country’s hottest super-lightweight prospects as champion Dalton ‘Thunder’ Smith (12-0, 10 KO’s) defends his British title against challenger Kaisee Benjamin (16-1-1, 6 KOs).

BOXXER earned the right to promote the mandated British championship bout between the two rivals when it won the purse bid earlier this month.

Former Team GB sensation Smith scored an impressive sixth-round stoppage win when he headlined in Sheffield last month – his third consecutive win inside the distance – to win the vacant title and take his number of professional stoppage wins to ten, including a 2021 TKO of BOXXER Series tournament semi-finalist Lee Appleyard.

Benjamin, from Birmingham, has 16 wins from 17 professional appearances and is undefeated in his last 13 fights. In June, he celebrated a unanimous decision win over Serge Ambomo at the Coventry Skydome to maintain his status as Smith’s mandatory opponent.

And Frazer ‘Big Fraze’ Clarke (3-0, 3 KO’s) will bid to continue his impressive and rapid rise up the heavyweight rankings as he takes on his toughest professional challenge to date in the form of experienced veteran Kamil Sokolowski (11-26-3, 4 KOs).

Clarke has won all three of his professional bouts thus far with three devastating knockouts – and the Tokyo 2020 Team GB Olympic bronze medalist will be hungry to add another stoppage to his burgeoning highlight reel in front of a packed crowd at the AO Arena – just a stone’s throw away from the home of his beloved football club, Manchester United.

Earlier in the evening, Manchester’s own Bradley ‘The Sting’ Rea (14-0, 6 KO’s) will put his unbeaten record on the line when he takes on English middleweight champion Tyler Denny (14-2-3). Rea has developed a reputation for an all-action style and will look to make this another crowd-pleasing contest for his hometown fans.

BOXXER CEO & Founder Ben Shalom, said: “This will be a massive night of boxing in Manchester.

“Tasha Jonas can etch her name in the history books by winning the WBC, WBO, IBF and Ring Magazine titles if she beats Marie-Eve Dicaire. I think this is Tash’s toughest test to date and it promises to be a spectacular women’s fight, just weeks after the iconic all-female card in London, on 15th October.

“In the co-main, Dalton Smith will be hoping to win the British super-lightweight title outright in what is a very, very tough challenge against Kaisee Benjamin. It’s a big fight and it will have huge consequences for the winner.

“Dalton is one of the finest young fighters in the country. We saw recently in Sheffield how his popularity continues to grow. Kaisee is a brilliant talent too and he’ll be hungry to pull off a major upset

“Frazer Clarke will go right to the top of this very exciting heavyweight division. He has a huge personality and the talent and commitment to go all the way. This fight against Kamil Sokolowski will offer a sterner test against experienced competition that fans will look forward to seeing

“Bradley Rea against Tyler Denny is a great fight. I saw Tyler in one of the fights of the year when he won the English title against River Wilson-Bent. This will be a huge test for Brad early on in his career. It is a compelling fight and possibly it could be the fight of the night. Brad has the chance to make a real statement in front of his home crowd on the big stage.”

Adam Smith, Sky Sports Head of Boxing Development, added: “Remember, remember the 12th of November, because this Fight Night will deliver more fireworks just a week after Bonfire Night.

“This truly is a great card, taking place in the iconic big fight city of Manchester, and it will be a night which promises to be a historic occasion with Tasha fighting for the unified world titles, just weeks after our iconic evening of women’s boxing at The O2 in London.

“And we’ll have a real spectacle in store with Kaisee Benjamin challenging Dalton Smith for the British title. Both men are hot prospects, who have huge futures ahead of them. This fight has all the makings of a domestic classic.

“Plus, after the controversy of his last outing in Liverpool, I’m delighted to see Frazer Clarke stepping it up against Kamil Sokolowski. A big man for a big night of boxing, live on Sky Sports – including the legendary Ricky ‘The Hitman’ Hatton versus Mexican great Marco Antonio Barrera, which takes place in an unmissable separate show by Europa Combat on the same evening, following the BOXXER card.”

Good show. I’m not particularly bothered about the main event (but it’s not a bad one for a women’s fight), a better opponent for Clarke and 2 good fights.

Works out better the jonas fight headlining, means the smith and clarke fights will be on sharper, be done and dusted with the card by 10pm.

Claressa Shields stripped of Ring Magazine belt

It's been reported that Flint boxer Claressa Shields has been stripped of her 154-pound (light middleweight) Ring Magazine belt.

And if you've just learned that information for the first time, then you found out in the same way she did: By reading about it online.

Ring Magazine posted an article Thursday that said Shields, the fastest double- and triple-division champion in boxing history, "has not fought at 154 pounds for over 18 months and has no apparent plans to return to the weight any time soon. Therefore, she was stripped from her Ring belt, just in time for the winner of the recently announced fight between current No. 1 Marie Eve Dicaire and No. 2 Natasha Jonas to be eventually crowned as the new champ."

Just one problem: Nobody told Shields. Shields quote-tweeted the Ring Magazine post — which tagged her — about vacating her belt, and responded, "I DIDN'T VACATE NOTHING! What the hell y'all talking about?"

Shields, 27, is scheduled to fight Savannah Marshall in London on Oct. 15 at BOXXER: LEGACY - Shields vs. Marshall for the undisputed middleweight (160 pounds) championship. She last fought at 154 pounds and defended her Ring belt in that class in a unanimous decision victory over Dicaire in March 2021.

Since Shields last fought at 154 pounds, she has since ventured into the world of mixed martial arts. She is 1-1 in her MMA career with the Professional Fighters League and has previously said that she plans to fight in MMA again at the PFL Finals in November.

DiCaire is so bad to watch. Zero power and running all night, not that good at all.

Good money grabbing they've done for Jonas over the past few fights. Of course others around her also make money, along with the people involved in the business and TV side of things. Hence why we see these contests.

Press Release | Viddal Riley Added To Jonas-Dicaire Card

Fresh off a first-round stoppage win in his last outing, undefeated cruiserweight prospect Viddal Riley (6-0, 3 KO’s) is today announced as the latest addition to the all-action BOXXER: Manchester card taking place at the AO Arena on Saturday, November 12th.

Screened live and exclusively in the UK & Republic of Ireland on Sky Sports Boxing, it will be Riley’s second time competing in the famed Manchester arena, having debuted for BOXXER there earlier this year on the undercard of the record-breaking BOXXER: Khan vs Brook event.

Having showcased his technical ability in his BOXXER debut, Riley - a national champion and Team GB member in his amateur days - then demonstrated his ferocious power in June, stopping the veteran Jone Volau in just 51 seconds.

In November, he heads to Manchester in search of a seventh consecutive professional victory which will continue his climb up the rankings and towards contender status.

With over two million followers across his various social media channels, an army of worldwide fans will be following Riley’s mission to Manchester, where he joins a card which also features Olympic heavyweight hero Frazer Clarke and Dalton Smith, who defends his British super-lightweight title against Kaisee Benjamin.

A world title unification bout headlines the card, with WBC and WBO world super-welterweight champion Natasha Jonas (12-2-1, 8 KO’s) heading over from Liverpool intent on taking the IBF championship from Canada’s Marie-Eve Dicaire (18-1, 1 KO) and adding it to her collection.

Registration for pre-sale tickets is now open, with tickets going on general sale this Friday, October 8th.

“Viddal Riley is an incredible talent who has made a major success of himself across multiple industries. There’s a huge level of interest in everything he does. Now his focus is entirely on boxing and on rising to world champion status. I think he has all the tools to go all the way,” said Ben Shalom, BOXXER Founder and CEO.

“With his combination of skills and personality, he’s got the potential to become a global superstar. Manchester on November 12th is the next step of that journey. The cruiserweight division as a whole is rising and becoming as exciting for us as it is for the fans. There is a lot more to come from that division.”

Rising star Riley remarked, "I am back! It feels good to return to the ring after one of my career-best performances last time out and I plan to build on it. I’d like to fight once more this year so it’s important that I win in style and take minimal damage. Watch the journey continue, and hopefully by the end of next year, a title is around my waist!”

Press Release | Undercard Information

Rising cruiserweight Viddal Riley will face unbeaten cruiserweight prospect Ross McGuigan in his next fight on Saturday, November 12th.

Riley (6-0, 3 KOs) made light work of Jone Volau back in June with a first round stoppage at Wembley Arena.

And the 25-year-old returns to the AO Arena in Manchester, where he defeated Willbeforce Shihepo on points, looking to continue his impressive ascent up the rankings.

BOXXER CEO & Founder, Ben Shalom said: “Viddal is a very good boxer, who is still very young and he should be taken very seriously.

“Coming out of Tottenham and training in East London, Viddal understands the importance of honing his craft. Training, sparring, watching, listening and learning the traditional way.

“Undefeated at 6-0, Viddal sets himself goals with each opponent and understands that hard work will push him on for domestic titles in 2023, with an ultimate focus of a world title down the line.”

Since turning professional back in 2018, Riley a 2014 Team GB Youth Olympian has enjoyed a flawless start and built up a huge following across social media

And he is intent on laying down another marker to the cruiserweight division.

Viddal Riley said: “My mission continues on November 12th in Manchester. Ross McGuigan is undefeated and will do his best to keep it that way, but I know my level and will display it in full come fight night.”

In McGuigan (3-0), Riley faces a tough opponent who is keen to make an impression live and exclusively on Sky Sports.

“I’m buzzing to be fighting Viddal Riley,” added London fighter McGuigan.

“I’m really looking forward to showcasing my skills on a massive platform with Sky Sports and BOXXER, where I plan to announce myself to the rest of the cruiserweight division.”

Elsewhere on the November 12 card, Dylan Cheema will be looking to extend his unbeaten record when he fights Jordan Ellison.

Cheema (7-0, 2 KOs) became the BOXXER Series: Lightweight champion back in April when he defeated Rylan Charlton – and the Coventry fighter is expected to have his legion of followers cheering him on in Manchester.

Oldham middleweight Jack Kilgannon will be keen to put on a show for the local fans as he joins the undercard.

And Mancunian welterweight prospect Clark Smith – a Gallagher’s Gym stablemate of Natasha Jonas, who fights Marie-Eve Dicaire for the unified world titles in the main event – will be in action too as he bids to continue his unbeaten start to life in the professional ranks.
