Sources: Errol Spence Jr., Terence Crawford agree to terms for potential Nov. 19 megafight

Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford have agreed to all material terms for a fight for the undisputed welterweight championship, an event targeted for Nov. 19 in Las Vegas, multiple sources tell ESPN.

However, the deal has not been signed as the parties' lawyers clean up legal language in the agreement, per sources. Crawford, ESPN's No. 1 pound-for-pound boxer and top welterweight, acquiesced to all proposed financial terms from PBC creator Al Haymon, including the short end of a revenue split, sources said

The package includes a bilateral rematch clause that the loser will have the right to exercise, per source. If the rematch clause is triggered, the winner will earn the majority of revenue for the return bout, per sources.

The 147-pound summit meeting -- Spence holds the WBC, WBA and IBF titles while Crawford has the WBO belt -- will be presented as a co-promotion between Spence's Man Down Promotions and Crawford's TBC Promotions on PBC pay-per-view. High-powered attorney Jeffrey Spitz is representing the Haymon/Spence side as the contracts are being reviewed.

"I want Terence Crawford; that's the fight that I want," Spence, ESPN's No. 2 welterweight and No. 3 pound-for-pound boxer, said in April. "That's the fight everybody else wants. ... Terence, I'm coming for that belt!"

The 32-year-old from Desoto, Texas, returned from surgery to repair a detached retina to score a 10th-round TKO of Yordenis Ugas in April to capture a third belt. Spence (28-0, 22 KOs) was set to fight Manny Pacquiao in August but withdrew from the matchup because of the eye injury.

It was the second major setback of Spence's career after an October 2019 car crash hospitalized him.

"Now everybody's saying that Errol's back and he's 100 percent ready. So now is the perfect time for me and him to fight," Crawford, 34, told ESPN in April. "He called me out, so it ain't no backing up."

Crawford (38-0, 29 KOs) parted ways with his longtime promoter, Top Rank, following his November TKO victory over Shawn Porter that sent the challenger into retirement. The move paved the way for a deal; Haymon, who advises Spence, rarely does business with Top Rank. Now, Haymon is poised to deliver one of the biggest fights of this century, a coup for PBC after it was unable to retain boxing's biggest star, Canelo Alvarez, after only one fight.

"I'm free to do whatever I want," said Crawford, a three-division champion from Omaha, Nebraska. "There's nothing standing in the way from us fighting. There's no promotion company that's blocking it, there's no wrong side of the street, there's no nothing. Let's see who the best welterweight in the world is."

This fight probably looks he closest it has ever looked.

The fact that there has been hardly any spats online/socials.. makes you believe they're actually getting things done.

I'm going Crawford.

I think the hold up on this has mostly been PBC side..

They'd rather Spence go through the PBC line up.. he's still YET to fight Thurman.

Great, highly skilled, match up if it comes off. I think Crawford will be just that bit too good for Spence and should earn a clear points victory.

Looks like they have a date of November 19th to work towards so both fighters should be in camp now.

Still slightly worrying that its not fully signed up. One of boxings biggest own goals if this falls by the wayside.

If it does fall through can see them both moving up rather than fighting Ennis. fornicating beast that lad.

Just because our contract with Terence came to an end doesn’t mean my views of the fight changed,” said Bob Arum to spam about the Spence vs. Terence Crawford fight on November 19th.

“I really believe Terence is the better fighter and will beat Spence when they fight, although I expect it’ll be a tremendous fight. That remains to be seen,” said Arum when asked if Spence – Crawford will be on the level of the 1980s fight between Sugar Ray Leonard and Tommy Hearns.

‘Hearns-Leonard, now looking at that fight like a fully baked cake. The fights over, we seen what happens. This [Spence vs. Crawford] has the ingredients of one of those fights. Whether it actually turns out to be will depend on the fight itself.

“The way these guys fight, either guy is talented enough and has the ability to knock the other guy out. If you ask me, ‘do I think the fight will end by a knockout,’ I don’t think so. I think it’ll be a hard-fought fight that’ll end in a decision,” said Arum about his thoughts on Errol Spence fighting Terence Crawford.

Errol Spence Jr.-Terence Crawford title fight at risk over dispute on contract details, sources say

The Errol Spence Jr.-Terence Crawford undisputed welterweight championship fight is in jeopardy because of a lingering dispute regarding the contract, sources told ESPN.

If the pay-per-view fight set for Las Vegas is finalized, it won't take place on the targeted date of Nov. 19 but rather in December or even January, sources said.

Spence and Crawford had agreed to terms, with Crawford set to earn the short end of the financial split, ESPN reported earlier this month. The issue: Crawford wants transparency related to event expenses since the contract contains no guaranteed purse, sources said.

Since Crawford (38-0, 29 KOs) will earn a percentage of the net revenue, he wants the ability to approve expenses, sources said. Crawford is a promotional free agent after parting ways with Top Rank, but sources said the proposed deal includes a bilateral rematch clause.

If the rematch clause is triggered, the winner will earn the majority of the revenue for the return bout, sources said. But if talks for the first bout continue to drag out, it's conceivable that Crawford, 35, will want another fight before facing Spence.

The 147-pound meeting for all four belts is one of the biggest fights in boxing. Crawford, ESPN's No. 1 pound-for-pound boxer and top welterweight, last fought in November, a 10th-round TKO victory over Shawn Porter to retain his WBO title.

Spence, a 32-year-old from Desoto, Texas, who is aligned with Al Haymon's PBC, returned from surgery to repair a detached retina to score a 10th-round TKO of Yordenis Ugas in April to add the WBA belt to go along with his WBC and WBA titles. Spence (28-0, 22 KOs) was set to fight Manny Pacquiao in August 2021 but withdrew from the matchup because of the eye injury.

It was the second major setback of Spence's career after an October 2019 car crash led to him being hospitalized. He did not fight again until December 2020.

I remember Ward-Kovalev 2..

Ward had a $6.5m guarantee

As for Kovalev:

The Russian’s promoter, Main Events CEO Kathy Duva, told a group of reporters that Kovalev will earn 75 percent of Main Event’s 40 percent cut of the promotion’s net revenue (pay-per-view sales, the gate, merchandise, etc.). That figures to be around $1 million-$1.5 million if the fight generates similar numbers to their first fight.

On the other hand, Ward will make a whopping sum and Roc Nation Sports stands to lose money on the promotion.

“Ward has a sugar daddy who pays him $7 million (actually $6.5 million) for this fight, OK,” Kovalev’s manager, Egis Klimas, said Thursday. “Sergey is earning every single penny. He is promoting this fight as much as he can. Every single penny comes from the fans – from the ticket sales, from the pay-per-view, Sergey is earning. Nobody’s giving it to him.”

Did around 120k buys and wasn’t the best gate.

I remember it worked for a lot of Roy Jones opponents in the late 90’s / early 00’s.

I remember the opposite happened with Hagler-Leonard. Hagler was on a percentage and Leonard had a hefty guarantee. But I believe Hagler ended up earning more..

I always got the impression that it was Al Haymon who was the stumbling block.

Spence is as gutsy as they come, Crawford wants big fights and despite Bob Arum being untrustworthy, he's put together more than enough blockbusters over the past 40 years.

This is why I don’t follow boxing anywhere near as much as before. AJ / Fury and now this. Too much money for the boxers and politicking from the promoters.

Spence can succeed where Canelo failed to become undisputed in two weight classes but it's a tall order beginning with that he needs to beat Crawford. :bag:
