Boxing official Ian John-Lewis leaves the BBBofC after being downgraded as a judge

His last involvement in professional boxing was the Josh Taylor vs Jack Catterall fight where he was downgraded as a judge from an A Star Class to an A Class Official for his controversial scorecard.

I think the way that it's done is through interview, then if accepted you do some 4 rounders with the score getting done from outside the ring, then if you get through that you get your license.
To get to the interview stage I think most have either boxed or already refer at some level.

You have an initial interview with your area council and if you pass that you go to as many shows as possible and do scoring tests where your scores are checked against the referees and if the council are happy that your scoring is good you then start refereeing contests with a qualified referee doing the scoring from ringside etc the whole process is subject to reports from other referee’s and area council members etc and then usually your progress is monitored by the area council every 6 months and then if the area council are happy they recommend you for a b license to the board head office at Cardiff plenty fall by the wayside for different reasons

Seems like Lewis is taking legal action, judging by his Facebook comments.

Seems like all the had to do was keep his head down till the rematch and probably would have gone back to A star after the rematch.

Doubt he will win unless he has something real bad on them.

And that defence doesn’t wash. Plus his scorecard was the outlier on the Catterall/Taylor fight which made no sense and is extremely difficult to justify.

That's probably where he has a chance to win his case.
Have no inside knowledge of the situation but if they've not followed procedures correctly then he'll probably win and either get reinstated or paid off handsomely.

Didn't he get a warning from the board when he gave a fighter 10 points in a round in a Prizefighter? In spite of the fact that the guy actually got knocked down and given a count in the round.

It's not that difficult for anyone to build a case against IJL showing incompetence, at the very least.
