"The Great White Hope" of the 70's Duane Bobick. Pulled off an impressive win streak, had a solid amatuer record and looked like he would be the next big deal in the HW division. Then he fights Ken Norton and is blown away inside of a minute of the first round, and never recovered from the loss, losing to guys like Chaplin and Tate in rematches.
Agree with this - Fenech was completely robbed Vs Nelson in their first mach (a great fight....but Fenech clearly won it).thunderfromdownunder wrote:it was more the "draw" against nelson that ruined Fenech.KOJOE90 wrote:Barry McGuigan was never the same after the Steve Cruz loss.
Jeff Fenech was never the same after the Azumah Nelson loss.
like johnny lewis said...they didnt just rob him of the world title that night, they robbed him of his heart and soul
Fenech was not the same after that. The Fenech that went into the rematch with Nelson was not the same fire in his belly...full of rage...Jeff Fenech we had seen for years prior.......That was clear when he was entering the ring that day......there was no aura around him on the way inside the ring. It was missing.

There are various reasons why these fighters didn't do well after these defeats. some of them just weren't that good in the first place and started losing when they fought someone good.
However, a few like Meldrick Taylor and Donald Curry seemed to simply lose their confidence. They had showed that they had a lot of talent in their previous fights, but just mentally couldn't rebound after a loss.
One of the things that makes a great fighter great is that he could come back after a loss.
