Jack Dempsey vs Tyson Fury
Jack Dempsey vs Tyson Fury
Hwy,15, who wins?
Re: Jack Dempsey vs Tyson Fury
Fury is too advanced and tricky for Dempsey. He could outbox Jack and utilize own size against him.

Tyson Fury. The Manassa Mauler, Jack Dempsey, was too small.
Re: Jack Dempsey vs Tyson Fury
Dempsey was small, but he was quicker and could bob and weave through Fury's jabs and combinations as he could wear him down with heavy punches on the body and head that Fury never felt before under the 15 rounder as Dempsey would take a decision even though I like Fury who dominated Wilder.

Fury.
Dempsey was absolutely amazing when he fought giants who were just big strong men with no real mobility or skills to talk about, but I don't think he would be able to do much with Fury (2015) let alone the 2022 version of Fury. He would have his head jabbed off.

Dempsey and it would be brutal. Dempsey feasted on big guys. Wouldn't last until the middle rounds. Dempsey was way too aggressive, fast, and advanced for Fury.

Oh that's right. The guys from more recent times are always "more advanced." I was going off of what actually happened. Silly me. My bad.

Re: Jack Dempsey vs Tyson Fury
If we ever see Fury vs Usyk we'll have a better idea how this would go I think. Even though even Usyk now has about 25 pounds on Dempsey in his prime.

Re: Jack Dempsey vs Tyson Fury
Dempsey didn't fight many guys who were big by today's standards. And the ones he did face appear far less skilled than Fury.
I don't see how beating Willard would make Dempsey a favorite over Fury. As far as being more advanced Dempsey lost at his peak to Willie Meehan
Fury by mid round stoppage

Re: Jack Dempsey vs Tyson Fury
Willard was a big fighter. Dempsey destroyed him. Guy had a broken cheekbone, broken ribs etc. It is on film and we can watch it and get an idea about Dempsey. i.e. Dempsey was ultra aggressive animal.
But you want to make a big deal about his 4-round decision with Willie Meehan ? (California law only allowed 4 round fights at the time.) It was one of 21 fights Dempsey had that year. He fought shortly before that fight, and even the next day. But yeah, lets focus on that fight.

Re: Jack Dempsey vs Tyson Fury
Arguing Dempsey matches up well with quality big men because he beat the likes of Willard simply doesn't make sense. Willard isn't very good and beating him in no way constitutes evidence Dempsey can dispatch quality giants.
Between the two I would say Fury has beaten better opponents with Wilder and a slightly past it Klitschko still better than the likes of Morris, Willard, Gibbons.
There are light heavyweights I would strongly favor over Dempsey today yet none of them have moved up to heavyweight to challenge Fury. If Dempsey could actually beat Fury I would expect someone like a Beterbiev who seems like a better version of Dempsey to fancy his chances

Re: Jack Dempsey vs Tyson Fury
Willard wasn't very good? Well, he beat Jack Johnson. and since the closeness of a fighter's prime didn't matter to you Johnson-Jeffries or with fury-Klitschko, then Willard mist have been pretty good.
Seriously though, Wilder is a big win? Wilder could punch hard, and virtually nothing else. Not to mention that Fury got decked multiple times, and only got a draw in their first fight.
Glass jaw Klitschko? He was ancient and Fury still barely beat him in terrible fight. Embarrassing performance.
I'm sure there are light heavyweights today that you would pick over Dempsey. You are entitled to idiotic opinions.

Re: Jack Dempsey vs Tyson Fury
I don't see anything strange about favoring some of today's light heavyweights over Dempsey based on their records and actual films of their fights. Favoring someone like Ward or Beterbiev over Dempsey seems reasonable based on the evidence we have available. What advantages does Dempsey have based on film?Ambling Alp II wrote: ↑17 Oct 2022, 13:57 Willard wasn't very good? Re: Jack Dempsey vs Tyson Fury
Yes it is absurd. Can't believe that you have never watch actually watched Dempsey. He was a very hard puncher who was ultra aggressive. He had good hand speed and was a an accurate puncher. Had a good chin.
You simply saying that light heavyweights would beat Dempsey is a not a real argument. Their records? You do realize that in boxing win/loss records can be very deceiving. You can always find someone to beat.
Well Dempsey beat Hall of Fame light heavyweights and heavyweights.
How about you watching Fury against an ancient Klitschko. He looked like crap.

Re: Jack Dempsey vs Tyson Fury
My impression of Dempsey is that by today's standards he is not really exceptional aside from maybe power. Even that seemed to be less in evidence against his better opponents.Ambling Alp II wrote: ↑18 Oct 2022, 10:19 Yes it is absurd. Can't believe that you have never watch actually watched Dempsey. I would rate his 4 best opponents as Tunney Sharkey Gibbons and Miske. His better opponents didn't get blown out generally and Tunney beat him twice.
Dempsey comes across as having pretty poor defense. He gets hit a lot even by guys who are far from being great like Firpo and Brennan. There seem to be light heavyweights today that are better defensively. I think someone like Ward could neutralize Dempsey's power via movement, clinching, etc while against the big punchers Dempsey's lack of defense could get him kayoed.
You don't really have to rate Wilder highly to think he is better H2H than anyone Dempsey beat. I wouldn't put anyone Dempsey beat in the top 30 and the best guy Dempsey beat by my estimation lost in his prime to Johnny Risko and was held to a draw by Mickey Walker. I don't think Wilder would lose to Risko or draw with Walker.

Got to favour Fury. Either a wide UD or a stoppage in the mid-rounds. Too big, too gifted.

Re: Jack Dempsey vs Tyson Fury
If Fury had trained in Dempsey's time and without the PED's, the Dempsey that beat Willard punish him and win a 15 rounder by stoppage.
