Boxing is ****ed
Re: Boxing is ****ed
Dazn marginalising the sport further. Yes maybe paying the boxers more - but not good for the long game.

[/b]b]Why are you a boxing fan?[/b]
Its the ultimate gladiatorial sport. The hardest sport in the world from a mental and physical perspective. I've always believed the HW champ is the ultimate sportsman. There is nothing quite like a big fight in my opinion.
Have recent events made you question your loyalty to the sport?
This has been going on for years. There should be a #metoo movement for boxing now but there wont be. Reason for it. It isn't mainstream, its working class, there are no big sponsors attached to it, it's part of the 'scummy' sport that the general people expect.
Do you have the belief that recent events will get dealt with correctly?
Nah, nothing will change. Not enough big public figures behind it., You need the likes of Gary Linaker, Seb Coe etc etc to speak out but nobody cares about boxing.....nothing will change.
Other spots, this could have been the expose/ downfall of Eddie Hearn but it wont.

Boxing gets called out for corruption, FIFA and the IOC not so much.TopGun wrote: ↑10 Oct 2022, 05:32 [/b]b]Why are you a boxing fan?[/b]

Re: Boxing is ****ed
There has been a couple of excellent Heavyweight fights this year (Joyce vs Parker and Joshua vs Uysk II), but we have also missed out on Spence vs Crawford and Fury in with anyone good.
Fighters seem to box so infrequently and so many excellent fights don't get made.
By contrast, in the build up to Barerra ending Naz's career, he boxed four times in less than a year.

Breaks my heart but its going down the pan. Was gonna cancel my dazn anyway because of a lack of decent uk cards coming up, pretty much nothing of interest. Also had allegedly for years but that went same way. I know I'll always enjoy a well matched fight with fair scoring but that's so rare these days. And all the wwf style shit from fury!

Re: Boxing is ****ed
The immature response to why I'm a fan of boxing would be to suggest that I like to knock one out over Baumgardner.
In reality, I love the tactical side of boxing mixed with the physical aspect. A good fight flutters between chess and gladiator fighting.
I live in hope I suppose as there are loads of great fights out there at lots of weights. The UK scene has lots of talent on the cusp as well - particularly at lightweight.
The best fights have to be made at some stage...

I worked in the sport for many years as well. You and me plenty of chats about this. I bailed out 2018 because I was fed up with the bullshit.Spud wrote: ↑08 Oct 2022, 08:28 All ovf us in here are massive boxing fans, our commitment to the sport shows no bounds.
With regarding cheats a lot of us are hypocritical ****s because many of us regardless how many cheats are caught we still follow the sport.
I am a bigger **** than most on here because I worked in the sport and have turned a blind eye to a lot of things I seen and heard.
The last couple of months I seriously questioned many things about boxing so when a couple of days ago it was revealed Benn got caught cheating, and then in my opinion certain ****s desperately trying to get the fight on has made me blow a fuse.
Can I ask you the following:
Why are you a boxing fan?
Have recent events made you question your loyalty to the sport?
Do you have the belief that recent events will get dealt with correctly?
Thanks

It has alway been a business. There are many differences now but to name just 2 in my opinion.1 Eddie Hearn is not a boxing man and has little respect for the noble art. 2 the BBBOC has no credibility whatsoever. Again no respect for the noble art. On the plus side Sky are still the only broadcaster emerging with any credibility at all.
