I noticed that. I think there’s some serious beef between the Sky guys & Hearn now.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑14 Oct 2022, 15:34nice, spenny is usually a shameless a-side suck upmickey1975 wrote: ↑14 Oct 2022, 14:39 Spencer Oliver was asked today if Benn was guilty, innocent or not sure? Re: Connor Benn fails drug test!
I saw Derek Williams in Boxing News mentioned strength and conditioning coaches. He seems a very articulate writer for someone who must have taken untold punishment as a journeyman. But it had me thinking - is it now that all strength and conditioning coaches need a high level of knowledge of both administration of PEDs and how to beat the testing? Is any boxer with such a coach and improving actually highly suspect?

Not sure. Exercise-related S&C trainers have a pretty different knowledge-base to ‘S&C’ trainers who are pharmacists in all but name. I’ve long thought there was a real euphemistic element to the way the term gets tossed around but it seems to be the chemistry and so on required for the latter to be a pretty big barrier to entry for a dude whose background is sports science . At least, to do it well, effectively and discretely? Of course I’m basically uninformed so who knowspolecateddy wrote: ↑16 Oct 2022, 08:54 But it had me thinking - is it now that all strength and conditioning coaches need a high level of knowledge of both administration of PEDs and how to beat the testing? Re: Connor Benn fails drug test!
Think you might be confusing Derek Williams and Danny Williams? Derek was British and Commonwealth champion, lost twice for the European title, and to Lennox Lewis, but was definitely not a journeyman.polecateddy wrote: ↑16 Oct 2022, 08:54 I saw Derek Williams in Boxing News mentioned strength and conditioning coaches. Nope! No confusion here. Post-Lewis, Derek Williams was certainly a journeyman and professional sparring partner.olij999 wrote: ↑16 Oct 2022, 13:12Think you might be confusing Derek Williams and Danny Williams? Understood. Think we'll have to agree to disagree - your definition of journeyman is a lot broader than mine!polecateddy wrote: ↑16 Oct 2022, 13:20Nope! No confusion here. Re: Connor Benn fails drug test!
There are a lot of heavyweights that slip into a journeyman role after a big opportunity. Post Lewis, Derek Williams was primarily known as a paid sparring partner. He did fight on professionally but it was half-hearted stuff. I mean Kevin Johnson kind of did exactly the same thing post Klitschko, but kept more active with the actual boxing.olij999 wrote: ↑18 Oct 2022, 09:14Understood. Derek Williams claimed to of been drugged before his EBU title defence against Jean Chanet , said he felt lethargic and foggy headed from the start.
Claimed something was put in the water he had before bout

Re: Connor Benn fails drug test!
There was one almighty kick-off outside the ring at one of the two EBU title fights 'Sweet D' had with Chanet
I never bought that drugging claim from Williams because he was shit both times against Chanet.
Plus, Williams frequently turned in dreary performances throughout his career.
Touching on the earlier posts about being a Journeyman....I think there is good boxers who are 'Journeyman'....and then there are 'losing Journeyman', who are quite different.
In the 80's if you read The Ring magazine the term 'Journeyman' wouldn't be applied to some of the boxers who had very long losing streaks.

Re: Connor Benn fails drug test!
‘Dangerman’ was the next step up usually from journeyman, (like your Bert Cooper types), but I don’t think Derek Williams was very dangerous. I’d think Danny Williams would have outpointed him without too much fuss.THEBUTCH wrote: ↑18 Oct 2022, 14:05 There was one almighty kick-off outside the ring at one of the two EBU title fights 'Sweet D' had with Chanet![]()

Danny Williams competed better in much higher class than Derek Williams.
Whilst you could never set your watch with what Danny Williams would turn up, even a broken clock is right twice a day and Danny might show incredible heart on occasions...but with Derek Williams it was more a case of a guy who often lacked passion, durability and most of all...heart.

Yeah all seems to have gone quiet. I can see it all getting swept under the carpet.

No chance it’ll be swept under the carpet - it blew up too much for it to be. There will be legal stuff ongoing in the background for weeks/months before something is announced.smiling assassin wrote: ↑19 Oct 2022, 10:08Yeah all seems to have gone quiet. That’s what I thought at first but the longer this goes on I can see it happening. A couple of weeks is a long time with news, let alone a few monthsmaverick23 wrote: ↑19 Oct 2022, 11:48No chance it’ll be swept under the carpet - it blew up too much for it to be. A hair follicle test would clear it up immediately.

Re: Connor Benn fails drug test!
I see and hear Frank Smith and TalkSports Simon Jordan having a war of words now and for once I agree with Jordan..
Smith giving text book answers which in my opinion amounts to a cover up.
I said before Benn would get off on a legal technicality but when it happens Benn will expect an apology from us all.
Theres one fundamental point that keeps me fprming an opinion that Benn should be BANNED and that is ALLEGEDLY traces of a drug were gound in sample A … regardless of how minimal those traces are how the f*ck did they find their way into Sample A?

A hair strand drug test is among the most accurate laboratory tests for drugs and alcohol – and is almost impossible to cheat. The method can be used to detect virtually all drug and alcohol substances, between 7 days and 6 months after their use.
