If so that will a big disappointment, while PBF gets stick for fighting the likes of Gatti, now Billy wants Arturo after he's took another beating from Baldomir...? Billy said the Gatti fight was destroyed just few minutes after he lost to Balodimir, and now the doors back open?

If they can't get a fight, take Vivian Harris who's coming off a good win over Stevie Johnston.

I agree. It was a good win, but he didnt look that good to me, thats a good fight for ricky at 140. A very winnable one too.

Speaking as a paying armchair punter who's likely to face a fifteen quid PPV charge regardless of who's in the opposite corner when Hatton next fights in December, I say bring on Arturo. I don't want to fork out good money to see Ricky face Vivian Harris, or even Baldomir for that matter. This sport is all about good fights and Hatton vs Gatti remains a good fight, and an attraction, even if Aturo is damaged goods.

Hatton's last three bouts, against Tszyu, Maussa and Collazo were all on PPV, and I'd only call the Tszyu fight a thriller. Hatton vs Gatti would deliver the goods for as long as it lasted :TU:

Don't think I'd pay to see it. Hasn't Gatti been hit enough? The only thing in this for Hatton would be money...and at the end of the day, that is what does the talking.

Surely Hatton will not go down this road now. His reputation will be severely dented if he fights Gatti now.

I'm sorry, but if this fight happens, it's dogshit. This is a terrible and cynical fight to make, if indeed they are trying to make it. I will definetly lose a lot of respect for Ricky and his camp if they make this fight.

Harris beat a blown up lightweight who should probably hang them up. He looked good, but he SHOULD HAVE looked good. Harris blew his big opportunity when he lost his Mayweather fight by getting KOed by Maussa. I think he is benefitting a lot from a division that will be empty by year's end.

Yay, Terrence and I agree on something shocker :TU:

Yep, he looked poor - Johnston was a small lightweight coming in with 3 weeks notice. I've seen a few of Johnston's recent fight (where he has had time to prepare) and I think had Johnston been given a fair crack of the whip - he would have beaten Harris.

I'm almost glad Harris lost to Maussa...it spared the world of seeing him get abused by Mayweather in his next fight. That was the big to-do at 140 besides Hatton/Tszyu, and hindsight being 20/20, it would've been a massacre.

I agree that Gatti's taken a lot of punishment and it is probably a bit bloodthirsty of me to look forward to him face Hatton, but that raises the question of where the line should be drawn... Roberto Duran had a lot of glory nights after his best days had gone, well there's so many examples that we're all familiar with I guess. I remember genuinely fearing for Evander Holyfield's health, let alone giving him a chance of victory, when he faced Tyson for the first time.

If Hatton vs Gatti is a mismatch, and on health grounds, given Arturo's long career maybe it is, I would argue that it is no more of a mismatch than a lot of Hatton's WBU title defences.

If there was a logical, blindingly obvious next fight for Hatton then fair enough but since there isn't, and since we'd be asked to cough up fifteen quid PPV fee whoever he faces, I'd rather see Gatti in there rather than Urango, Baldomir or Urkal. Ideally somebody should make Hatton vs Cotto at 140lbs :TU:

Evander Holyfield and Robert Duran never got battered like Gatti did against Mayweather and Baldomir. Duran was never stopped until he fought Joppy at the age of 46, and Holyfield, well only Toney stopped him, when he was past it and Bowe at his peak.

Duran is one of the cutest infighters ever, he hardly ever took a clean shot on the inside, and was able to roll and smother his opponents work. Gatti's head is like a gigantic melon on a pole being twatted by a fat kid with a baseball bat. He's so goddam easy to hit. Even an old Ward was able to hit him. He has great heart and used to be very durable, but putting him in with Hatton now, would just be cruel. His best shots wouldn't trouble Hatton, and he would get absolutely battered.

Do we really want to see a repeat of any of Hatton's WBU title defences at this stage of Hatton's development?

Putting aside health concerns because none of us want to see Arturo come to any serious harm, if Hatton were fighting this weekend and it was fifteen quid to watch it on PPV then yes I'd rather see him face Gatti than Urango or Baldomir. And if Hatton stopped him in a one-sided bout after a few rounds, I guess I'd have myself to blame.

When Holyfield fought Tyson, I couldn't conceivably see how Evander would even survive the opening round. He was coming off tough fights with Moorer and Mercer, and a trilogy of wars with Bowe, and at the time Tyson looked back to his old self. A lot of people thought that Holyfield shouldn't be allowed in the same ring as Tyson but look what happened.

I appreciate and share the concern of fellow fans for the health of boxers, but going off at a tangent, I wonder if we should really be bothered. I say that because we're just the fans, afterall. The participants themselves, the managers, promoters, TV companies and governing bodies, none of them give a flying fook about the health of any boxer. Bowe, Holyfield and Tommy Morrison are all making comebacks as they approach middle-age.

I'm saying this in a devils advocate kind of way, as none of us want to see anyone come to harm, but since us fans don't have any influence why should we care when nobody else does ?

Come on Holyfield was at least an elite fighter who has beaten A grade opposition, Gatti struggled with Ward who is a gatekeeper at best and beaten twice by Ivan Robinson! Gatti has never beaten a top notch opponent. They have done well to keep remarketing him but even a prime Gatti would have been battered by Hatton.

Well whatever the pro's and cons of it all I stick by my original point, that I'd still pay to see Hatton face Gatti, I think it would be mayhem from the opening bell, and the point of this thread was that Arturo apparently remains under consideration so I guess we'll have to see how things turn out. Years and years of being worn down by some appalling matchmaking in this country, coupled with generous heapings of bogus title matches, makes me grateful for getting good matches, rather than not wanting to settle for anything less than the best and Hatton vs Gatti would be good enough for me, although obviously I'd prefer Hatton to face Cotto or Mayweather.

Remember, in the middle rounds Gatti looked to be boxing his way to a points win over Baldomir, before coming apart at the seams. Sometimes its a fine line between success and failure and if Gatti had survived and won on points, Hatton vs Gatti would be one of the most anticipated bouts of the year.

Anyway, whatever..... it will all come down to money and what they think they can get away with, opponent-wise, rather than pleasing us fans :D
