Derry Matthews & Andy Morris

Post by El Raincoat »

Was just looking through the ratings and see both these two are top Featherweights both from a similar area Liverpool & Manchester and are quite young. In Britain over the past 15 years we've done quite well at World level at this weight can we expect big things from either of these ? Hows the better of the two & have they fought in the amatears ?

Derry Matthews has alot of talent. I have seen him fight a number of times now and would say he is Liverpool's best prospect at the moment. he hasn't been matched that tough but has handled his fights he has had very well so far.

Derry's 14th October fight with Rendall Munroe will give us a great indication of how he compares to Morris.

I have just noticed this is on the Joe Calzaghe card, I might consider going. Murray-Burns could be fight of the night. :TU:

tipped both these boxers to win versions of a world title when they turned pro.Derry tall, rangy.quick and quite heavy handed.Morris smaller with greater head and body movement, sharp with a good jab.haven't changed my mind on how far i think they can go.

Not sure if I would go as far as World titles for the pair at this early stage (not saying its not possible either - just it seems so hard to get a geniune world title fight, and its a little early). However, I would rank them at #1 and #2 in terms of the Featherweight prospects (including the likes of Stephen Foster) and can see them both at European level in the near future.

Serious description of the two is bang on, not sure who will go the futher - used to think Morris but now leaning towards Matthew's based on the Morris vs Munroe fight.
