Fury's Increased Punching Power
In recent fights, Fury appears to hit a lot harder than he has done for most of his career.
What is he doing differently to allow for increased punching power at a later stage?
Is he sitting down on punchers more, or punching differently? Would be interesting to hear people's technical thoughts.

It’s pretty self explanatory if you’ve watched fights under Sugar Hill.big lennox wrote: ↑25 Oct 2022, 03:48 In recent fights, Fury appears to hit a lot harder than he has done for most of his career.

Ensuring your in top health and maintaining a good diet surely helps - so seeing your own GP (Dr Usman) and only eating organic foods such as Wild boar are the way to go.
Re: Fury's Increased Punching Power
He's actually started fighting as a heavyweight boxer rather than a Peter Fury flapper.

What does Sugar Hill ( who seems like a good guy) bring to table power wise?mickey1975 wrote: ↑25 Oct 2022, 03:58It’s pretty self explanatory if you’ve watched fights under Sugar Hill.big lennox wrote: ↑25 Oct 2022, 03:48 In recent fights, Fury appears to hit a lot harder than he has done for most of his career.

I’m a huge Tyson fan but you have to have questions regarding his improvement.
The pudding who got beat by McTitties and punched himself against Swabey is a completely different animal to now.
Extreme fitness as well. Not bad considering he runs about 3km at about 7 min pace.
Nandrolone. Fertility drugs. Or Jesus.
Make your own mind up.

Just watch Wilder 1 and 2 to see the difference in approach. Roach had already said he was a big puncher.big lennox wrote: ↑25 Oct 2022, 04:34What does Sugar Hill ( who seems like a good guy) bring to table power wise?mickey1975 wrote: ↑25 Oct 2022, 03:58It’s pretty self explanatory if you’ve watched fights under Sugar Hill.big lennox wrote: ↑25 Oct 2022, 03:48 In recent fights, Fury appears to hit a lot harder than he has done for most of his career.

Just a change in style I think. Anyone that size hitting you is going to hurt but he throws with more intent now rather than on the back foot. Power is a strange thing, some fighters look like bodybuilders and can’t punch.

I can see the difference in approach-in the first Wilder fight, Fury was on the back foot but in the second and third fights was on the attack.mickey1975 wrote: ↑25 Oct 2022, 04:41Just watch Wilder 1 and 2 to see the difference in approach. But, are their technical subtleties that my untrained eye is missing e.g. making sure his full weight is on when landing, turning over his punches etc. It's an interesting topic.

I think he always had the power.. He just didn't know how to use it.
Now he uses his bigger size and takes advantage of his opponents.
He's just changed his style.

He got his man-strength.
Re: Fury's Increased Punching Power
Looks like that. Earlier in his career, when he was a prospect and fought the lesser opposition, he was hurting people more both to head and body. But then he used it in a quite crude way, so he began to box, when he was becoming a contender.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑25 Oct 2022, 04:53 I think he always had the power.. Re: Fury's Increased Punching Power
He hadn't shaken Peter Fury's style off until Sugar Hill came in and imposed the new style. I don't doubt that Hughie could have big power if he went for it but that's just not how he's been trained.
Re: Fury's Increased Punching Power
Think really , he,s just been shown by a good trainer how to punch better , with using his weight
Re: Fury's Increased Punching Power
Nothing has changed. When he boxes, moves and just flicks out punches, obviously they have no power. When he sets his feet he can bang a bit.

he made Chisora quit on his stool in their second fight with flappy body shots. will be interesting to see how he puts Del away in their eagerly awaited third instalment
Re: Fury's Increased Punching Power
Chris was clearly unwell in the second fight.golden_balls wrote: ↑25 Oct 2022, 06:55 he made Chisora quit on his stool in their second fight with flappy body shots. will be interesting to see how he puts Del away in their eagerly awaited third instalment

He's punching coming forward, and not on the retreat, it's pretty simple.

But he sometimes did that in a few of his earlier fights but with not quite the same level of success. I just wondered what technical differences have been made to achieve that. Maybe, with experience, he is more relaxed when throwing punches coming forward which means his timing is better?jamesmcdonnell wrote: ↑25 Oct 2022, 07:39 He's punching coming forward, and not on the retreat, it's pretty simple.

I doubt a man of his size was fully mature in the early fights. He was very young to turn pro for a heavyweight.big lennox wrote: ↑25 Oct 2022, 08:36But he sometimes did that in a few of his earlier fights but with not quite the same level of success. He's probably been taught to sit down on his puches and develop more leverage.big lennox wrote: ↑25 Oct 2022, 08:36But he sometimes did that in a few of his earlier fights but with not quite the same level of success. Fury was mainly an arm puncher in his early days.
It's worth noting, that Sugar Ray Steward is Manny's nephew, and Manny was well known for teaching his fighters how to maximise their punching power, it was part of his style.

He is planting his feet more when he unloads now.
