Foreman didn't duck Quarry. The champion not fighting a guy who is at best the #4 contender isn't "ducking". foreman fought guys that were much better than Quarry.

A Foreman-Quarry fight would have been a complete mismatch. Quarry didn't have the firepower to bother Foreman nor the defense to avoid Foreman.
This fight wouldn't have lasted 5 rounds and it would have been very one-sided in Foreman's favor.

I grew up watching Quarry.
All of us Irish American hooligans would gather around pulling for the guy every time out.
Man we were dissapointed more than once.
But ya had to love his lets get it on style. He was game as they come.
But it seemed as though Jerry would start bleeding during the National
Anthem.
How about we put Quarry in the Hall right after Bennie Briscoe. Deal?

Quarry isn't even the most deserving Irish American not in the all of fame. Mike O'Dowd is. I think the guy was very underrated as well, but there's two many if's and but's in the equasion to put him in. Besides, there are already way too many heavyweights in the HOF. If O'Dowd, Newsboy Brown, Santos Laciar, Brian Mitchell, Myung Woo Yuh, Rocky Lockridge, Jung Koo Chang,Juan Martin Coggi, Buddy McGirt, Bruno Arcari, Rocky Kansas and Horacio Accavallo haven't been elected, I just can't see putting Quarry in.

I like JQ a lot & respect what he did for the sport but better hitters than Quarry never knocked out Tubbs, Page, Berbick & better boxers than Quarry never beat them no way does Quarry beat any of the 80s crew. Maybe John Tate... But Weaver, Holmes, Witherspoon, Page, Dokes had too much skills, stamina, size, power, etc for Quarry.

Overhand, would you really pick Mike Weaver to beat Quarry? Of course both fighters were a little inconsistant so it's a hard matchup in that respect but taking them both at there best I would have to pick Quarry.

Quarry hung in there and beat fighters who hit as hard if not harder that Weaver, Quarry also hit harder than some of the fighters who stopped Weaver.

If Quarrys mind was right I could see him counter punching his way to a points win or even late stoppage.

No way!!! The Mike Weaver who abolished John Tate, smashed Jerry Coetzee, and went 12 tough rounds with Larry Holmes would beat Quarry all day... At 210 pounds Weaver was brutal, and he had a jab which Quarry didn't have... I'm not talking about the Mike Weaver who floundered against Rodney Bobick, Stan Ward, Leroy Jones, and other terrible Heavyweights for a few years.. Mike had to work for the first 6 or 7 years he fought.. It took him a long time to where he could box full time and his career took off when he could focus all his time and energy on it.. He often said he should have quit working earlier because he was learning so much faster when he could devote himself to Boxing... When he learned what he was doing Weaver knocked out Stan Ward, Bernardo Mercado, Truth Williams, Gerrie Coetzee, and John Tate... He had that monster fight with Larry Holmes.

Unlike Jerry Quarry, Weaver was a hard and consistent trainer and became a World Champion in his own right by knocking out a World Champion.. Quarry never saw himself on the World Championship level -- or he would have buckled down and had a more positive attitude about his profession..

People tend to give Quarry too much credit for his win over Ron Lyle. Lyle had only 19 pro fights and still very crude. He didn't know what he was doing.. Lyle's best fight was probably his 34th against Muhammad Ali.. He always tried to improve his boxing and he was boxing well. Lyle was even on one scorecard and winning on 2 scorecards heading into the 11th round... After that Lyle fell off a lot.. He had a hard life and it caught up with him. He got a late start.
