What about if he isn’t juicing right from the start, would it be evident to the trainer at any point after, when and if he did start, do you reckon?
This needs a long post. Soon as I have time will do it.

I don’t doubt it. I know two gym owners well personally and they make their money out of steroids, not gym subscriptions.

I think there’s lot of top fighters doping however I don’t think a lot of guys at British / European level are at it.

People might argue the drugs aren’t expensive but you need a doctor or someone that knows what they’re doing to ensure you don’t test positive & that’s where the cost comes in.

We’ve seen how stupid a lot of fighters can be in interviews & on social media. They couldn’t run a doping program alone. Imagine someone like Jamie McDonnell microdosing off his own back to avoid positive tests. I just can’t see it.

It does make me laugh when people defend people like Peter Fury & Tony Sims. These were people who were involved in organised crime gangs in the drugs trade & god knows what else but people would have you believe they’d take issue with one of their fighters taking a PED because they’ve met them & they seemed nice. To quote Frank, do me a favour.

I don’t know the cost of it so that may be prohibitive but someone like Johnny Fisher has been a pro nearly 2 years and said recently he’s never been tested. There isn’t a massive deterrent there.

First I will cover costs of widely available PEDs and their likely uses.

Testosterone Enanthate-£25-50 per 10ml bottle. Average use is 2ml per week. Personally I’d say it’s effective at 0.5ml per week. Increased recovery from training, increased sex drive. Side effects include ED, gynocomastia (bitch tits), high blood pressure, increased aggression, mood swings.

Nandrolone Decanoate (Deca) £30-60 per 10ml bottle. Average use is 2ml per week. I’ve never taken it so can’t speak of its effective dose. Some of my mates used it to ‘lubricate the joints’ while lifting heavy weights on cycle. Sort of injury prevention. It’s also well known for being a bulking steroid. Side effects include heavy bloating of the face and neck, ED, low libido.

Trenbolone Acetate (Tren) £40-70/10ml bottle. This is crazy strong anabolic compound, which gives large mass gains over the course of a cycle. It’s a hormone developed to bulk beef producing cattle. Ive seen a few guys go clean off their heads on this. Increases libido and agression. Is notorious for hair loss, night sweats and acne. Favoured by bodybuilders.

The drug Conor was caught for is as said a post cycle recovery drug, but I think also to counter this gynocomastia effect. All these steroid drugs are injected, so you have to inject yourself multiple times a week. Potentially for life if your body’s natural testosterone production gets permanently damaged. Your Vitor Belfort’s of this world are totally fecked without their TRT injections no doubt after years of abuse.

Mate, seriously, you wouldn’t believe it! Absolutely gagging on it but the fella won’t budge. Viagra helps. It’s generally when you’ve taken too much testosterone it happens.

Viagra generally gets thrown into the cycle pack as a freebie.

Clomids generally used to restart the HPA axis. It’s got very little effect on gyno. Letrozole is more useful for that, however it can destroy healthy oestrogen levels. Tamoxifen is also commonly used. I had a sore lump behind one of my nipples and I was given Raloxifen and it cleared it in two weeks.

Back in the 90's when I had 50 odd fights, I was never tested once, some championship level fighters were.
I think there was random testing at championship level and then the odd on if they had good reason too.
And of course that would have only been on the night.
Nevertheless in my time, I can genuinely say that I didn't think anyone was on it, maybe I was naive but folk talk, and there wasn't any whispers about anyone.

Mike Tyson said his biggest career regret was that he didn't use HGH. This implies to me he did cycles of roids but never added the extras in, which Holyfield, aka Even Fields, we know did. Holyfield still likely beats him for my money though. Too much technique and stamina for him

Definitely fucked his cycle up imo. He even alludes to it in an interview, how for Mike Tyson it all came together for him, training wise. He’s in the shape of his life for that fight.

The protection is plain to see, as money will be lost so they are going to protect their fighters. The irony of what Eddie is saying below is amazing though. Conor doesn't deserve a pat on the back now that he's been caught out. The lie is taking it in the first place.

“I’ll tell you one thing about this situation,” Hearn told BBC 5 Live Boxing. “Conor Benn had the opportunity to lie. Right? They sat down, and people said to him, ‘Ultimately, you’ve got to build a case here. So is your wife on any fertility treatment?’ [Benn said] ’No, she’s not.’ I’m sure people said to him, ‘Say she is.’ His exact words to me, ‘I don’t want to lie.’

“This is a man of faith and of God, not that that should matter in a court of law. But what I’m saying is this he didn’t want to make up an excuse. He wants to be honest with people. He wants to go through the process. He didn’t take his wife’s fertility drug. All of those excuses could’ve been laid out. He wants to be honest and go through the process. Give him a chance to be heard.”

This is probably not a popular opinion, but I think any promoter is behind the eight ball in a position like this. One of your top assets tests positive, it puts the promoter in a difficult position IMO.

I think it’s prevalent at the low levels as well.

Larry O is obviously found guilty but you had Young Fury as well, acne’d to f uck in his few fights.

It would be easy to get away with down there as well as I doubt they get tested at all. Once you get up to a certain level you can afford to pay for the advice of a doctor on how to dodge the tests.

Golota was the same. Terrible skin at times. I’m sure he used a lot of pharmaceuticals to bolster his fragile disposition. Receding hairlines can also be a problematic side effect for some dopers - hello Holyfield! Who amazingly had 8 time Mr Olympia Lee Haney as his blooming strength and conditioning coach for his big bulk from cruiserweight!
