Re: Justis Huni HW prospect
dude;s only 23 and been moved pretty fast, winning them all. he's not a big hitter and needs some work, but has nice speed and movement and should be able to improve. these days you hardly have to be great to make the top 10-15...........i defo think he still counts as a world class propsect, in terms of his potential to reach that level one day
guys like bermane stiverne, dom breazeale, charles martin etc made the top 10 or close to it and fought for/won titles not long ago. even wilder was dropped hard by a can earlier in his career, fury down against not much better too

Re: Justis Huni HW prospect
Anyone who wins an AIBA medal at age 20 is a world class prospect by definition. His hand issues might derail him though, they already derailed his Olympicsoogiebe wrote: ↑04 Nov 2022, 23:17He may be fun to watch, but he's no world class prospect.gregregegg wrote: ↑04 Nov 2022, 19:38 Huni went 10 rounds with another tough customer. Bit of a war early. Huni hurt in the 2nd, dropped in the 4th (although not called) and broke his hand some time around the 8th.
Huni seems to lack a bit of power, and seems to fight entertaining rather than fighting smart a lot of the time. which is good for the fans, but might stunt his progress if his hands and brain take too much punnishment in the early stages of his carrer. but he still has fast hands and class combonations.
Love huni taking real fights early on Fought opelu (boxrecs number 40) on debut as a 21 year old, and is continuing to fight tough guys, but some of these islanders are just a bit too tough for his young lil hands. might need to target some non Polynesians for the next couple of fights....
p.s The full fights on youtube if you search 'Justis Huni vs. Kiki Toa Leutele (04.11.2022)' . worth a watch if you like a fun heavyweight fight.
2 lots of broken hands, gettting hurt a few times, and not finnishing people has my opinions on huni hushed a little bit, but still a world class prospect at 23.

Re: Justis Huni HW prospect
Thats a big call. dosent have the KO highlight reel because he is fighting semi real guys. but he is Youngest heavyweight in boxrecs top 50 being number 36 @ 23 years old. (only under 25 YO in top 50)oogiebe wrote: ↑04 Nov 2022, 23:17He may be fun to watch, but he's no world class prospect.gregregegg wrote: ↑04 Nov 2022, 19:38 Huni went 10 rounds with another tough customer. I dont know if he will make it or not. having a lot of trouble with his hands and dosent really fight smart, but he is the first prospect without olympic experence to fight such dangerouse guys so early... (his debut was a 10 rounder vs a guy thats currently boxrec 40th)...
id consider him a world class prospect, just needs to stop fighting guys with sturdy heads so his hands get a rest.

Re: Justis Huni HW prospect
I think Huni does have power, it's just that fighting Leutele is like fighting Tex Cobb. No one's going to put that guy out. It's no wonder he broke his hand.gregregegg wrote: ↑04 Nov 2022, 19:38 Huni seems to lack a bit of power, and seems to fight entertaining rather than fighting smart a lot of the time.
The second part - that really is a concern, he didn't fight smart against Leutele, didn't really employ a strategy to avoid the right hand, he just tried to cover and dodge in the moment and while he showed he can really take a big shot, lots of big shots, that's not a great long-term strategy.
I was impressed with both fighters. Incredible output, amazing chins, lots of power. If Huni had taken the approach Larry Holmes took against Tex Cobb it still would have gone 10 rounds but Huni wouldn't have gotten hit. Instead he started out fighting like Marciano..!

Sure considering overall talent in the HW division, I can see your point. I forget how thin it is out there when considering a single fighter. Decent point, and we'll see how he plays out. I will say I hope his issues with his hands doesn't become a factor. I just don't see him reaching the top echelon of his division.SportsRatings wrote: ↑04 Nov 2022, 23:49Anyone who wins an AIBA medal at age 20 is a world class prospect by definition. Re: Justis Huni HW prospect
this is marky's debut
looks well schooled for sure, good with every punch and hits to the body as well. though a tiny heavy
most memorable thing is his opponent's reaction to the stoppage ....i have no idea why it was stopped and seems he doesnt either

Agree, but I believe he will fill out in time, and his power will come along with it.pound per pound wrote: ↑06 Nov 2020, 16:32 A good young prospect. Good skills. Fast hands. Medium level power. Not a big heavyweight.
At 23 man strength and muscle to come.

Aussie champ Huni rushed to hospital
Australian heavyweight champion Justis Huni is in the hospital with what is suspected to be appendicitis after his win last Friday night against Kiki Toa Leutele. “We’re at emergency now,” Huni’s father Rocki told Fox Sports. “And I’m thinking appendicitis. He initially had severe stomach cramps on Sunday. We thought it might have been something he ate.”

Re: Justis Huni HW prospect
If he was 21 I'd say you have a point. But he will be 24 soon! Medium power is the wrong word. 17 of the top 20 ranked heavyweights hit harder I say so it's really below average. He is small for the heavyweights these days. We will see how far his skills combined with reach take him. But I agree he has faster the average hand speed. Good, not very good our great though.KiwiRider wrote: ↑08 Nov 2022, 02:52Agree, but I believe he will fill out in time, and his power will come along with it.pound per pound wrote: ↑06 Nov 2020, 16:32 A good young prospect. Power, hand speed and size are all very similar to Parker. Less granite chin.pound per pound wrote: ↑10 Nov 2022, 17:50If he was 21 I'd say you have a point. But he will be 24 soon! If he had taken the normal prospect path he would still have 100% ko ratio. He is in with some sturdy heads.

I doubt he is the next unified champ, but feel he will be in the mix as the top guys retire.
Have a look at the boxrec top 20 heavies. I predict half will be retired in the next 3-4 years- which makes guys like Anderson and Huni the next wave. Sad as that may seem.
