Michael Conlan Reveals Next Fight Date

Michael Conlan [17(8)-1(1)] is back in camp preparing for his next fight.

The Belfast featherweight says he will back out as soon as December 10th and will look to add another win to his record before the year is out.

‘I’m back out December 10th, it seems like Belfast again, back in the SSE,” he told Boxing Social. “That’s the plan. we were hopeful we could get something done [ with Leigh Wood] but we always had to have our own plan and that’s why I went straight back to business and fought in August.”

Conlan was last seen in action defeating three-time world title challenger Miguel Marriaga in his first fight since a first career reverse suffer at the gloved hands of Leigh Wood in Nottingham in March.

Speaking after that Return of the Mick victory at the packed SSE, the only Irish male fighter to win World Championship gold said his focus had switched to getting titles not getting even.

Conlan said he wants belts more than he wants revenge and is open to fighting any of the reigning champions at 126lbls.

“I want to fight for a world title as soon-as-possible.”

The champions include former Carl Frampton foes Leo Santa Cruz and Josh Warrington, Emanuel Navarrete and Rey Vargas. They are all big names but all are attainable targets and all fights the Irish star would be confident going into.

“I’ll fight any of them. I want to fight for a world title so whatever is next is next,” he added when speaking last month.

A world title fight with any of the aforementioned seems unlikely for December. Not to mention the rumor mill has been churning out two very interesting names, neither of which are reigning world champions. Isaac Dogboe in New York and Jazza Dickens in Belfast have both been mentioned as winter possibilities.

ESPN+ Press Release

Featherweight contender Michael “Mick” Conlan looks to shine in his Belfast homecoming when he battles French veteran Karim Guerfi on Saturday, Dec. 10, at The SSE Arena.

Conlan-Guerfi and undercard bouts will stream live and exclusively in the U.S. on ESPN+ starting at 1:15 p.m. ET/10:15 a.m. PT. The Belfast bonanza kicks off a fistic marathon on the ESPN family of networks. Conlan-Guerfi precedes “Heisman Night” from Madison Square Garden featuring the junior welterweight main event between former lightweight king Teofimo Lopez and former two-weight world champion Jose "Sniper" Pedraza.

Conlan (17-1, 8 KOs) returns for his second Belfast block party since his valiant challenge of WBA featherweight champion Leigh Wood in March. The two-time Irish Olympian was leading on the scorecards before being knocked out in the 12th round. In August, he returned to his winning ways with a one-sided decision over three-time world title challenger Miguel Marriaga at The SSE Arena. Guerfi (31-6, 9 KOs), from Manosque, France, is a former two-division European champion coming off a decision win over Mexican veteran Ricardo Mercado in July.

Undercard standouts include a trio of undefeated Top Rank-signed prospects: junior middleweight Kieran Molloy (3-0, 2 KOs) and featherweight Kurt Walker (4-0, 1 KO) will see action in six-rounders, while rising welterweight Paddy Donovan (9-0, 6 KOs) aims for his third victory of the year in an eight-rounder.

What a shame. A UK boxers fight can get picked up on a US streaming site.. but in the UK, no one wants it.

I think the issue is simply around the MTK connections, otherwise Sky Sports would show given the TR link up.

From Conlan’s perspective, Belfast was part of Ireland long before the British invaded and eventually drew up a border in 1921.

He fights under the Irish flag and with an Irish passport. Belfast, on the island of Ireland with an Irish Republican Party being the region’s biggest political party suggests that claims of the area being British is on borrowed time....

Calling an Irishman from the north of Ireland British or from the UK is a big insult particularly when you consider Britain’s violent involvement in Ireland including the genocide of over 1 million people and the lack of civil rights that historically the British afforded the Irish within the six counties.

The irish free state recognises all persons born on the island of Ireland as being Irish.

I find it more ironic that he used the Wolfetones song and everybody was outraged and is managed by/ pals around with the drug dealers who took over from the ones that were all killed by the Provos when they were shooting them pre ceasefire under the Action Against Drugs name (in Dublin it was "Concerned Families Against Drugs")

Conlan says he has no trouble getting into America but they sanctioned people who weren't as publicly close to Kinahan as Conlon is

Has he been to America since the sanctions?? Wasn't he based there??
