Love Boxing, But Hate The BBBofC.
The board are at best incompetent and at worst, corrupt. Home fighter advantages, early stoppages, biased officiating and nothing ever happens. Is there nothing that we, as fans, can do?

The BBBofC holds the fans opinions with contempt.

Ian John Lewis is promising a ‘tell all’ interview very soon.

Said a few times the only thing that will sort them out is what you don't really want ,, Govt intervention in some way , not ideal have a govt body running things but its the only way to sort them out
Re: Love Boxing, But Hate The BBBofC.
just another form of closed gentlemans club with members who are totally unelected by the fighters or fans and accountable to nobody .

The only problem is thst I can't think of a government organisation that isn't either corrupt and/or incompetent.

Genuine question - is it generally a similar story with other sports? I only really follow football as closely as boxing, and think it’s fair to say lots of people would agree with the sentiment of “Love football, hate FIFA.” But dunno how widespread ut is that governing bodies are disliked and distrusted.
Either way, I’m sure there can’t be many worse than the BBBoC.

I don't think Footy and Rugby have such blatantly biased officials. Nor do Tennis, Basketball or any of the other mainstream sports. In fact, I can't think of another sport that has to put up with it.Boxerbeetle wrote: ↑16 Nov 2022, 16:21 Genuine question - is it generally a similar story with other sports? The Board have got nothing on FIFA - they can only dream of aspiring to their level of corruptionBoxerbeetle wrote: ↑16 Nov 2022, 16:21 Genuine question - is it generally a similar story with other sports? Corruption is one thing, but the BBBofC accept terrible decisions as the norm. Punch a fighter when he's down? No problem. Clearly lose fight on points? Don't worry. Knock your opponent down and he's getting up at 8.5? Absolutely no issue what so ever. As long as you're the home fighter, it's all good. Week after week we see the same sh1t. It's killing the sport and absolutely nothing gets done about it. It's fvcking bullsah1t man.bripez wrote: ↑16 Nov 2022, 16:25The Board have got nothing on FIFA - they can only dream of aspiring to their level of corruptionBoxerbeetle wrote: ↑16 Nov 2022, 16:21 Genuine question - is it generally a similar story with other sports? Re: Love Boxing, But Hate The BBBofC.
I don’t think the board are corrupt but I think there’s a fair bit of incompetence and it seems to be a bit of a jobs for life gig.
My main criticism is the lack of British title fights. I don’t know the numbers and could be wrong but it seems like the British titles are far less active than they were previously which is a great shame. I blame the board for that. The heavyweight title won’t have been contested for 2 years when Gorman fights Wardley next week.
They should have ordered more fights, stripped fighters who weren’t defending the belts regularly and pushed back against the bogus intercontinental euro championships that the sanctioning bodies have been drip feeding in.

If it was incompetence then it would go both ways and not always in favour of the boxer in the red corner.maverick23 wrote: ↑16 Nov 2022, 16:38 I don’t think the board are corrupt but I think there’s a fair bit of incompetence
I cant remember a "prospect" or boxer with a top promoter on the wrong end of a dodgy decision.

I don’t think they’re being paid to make bad decisions. I just think they often favour the home fighter because they have a preconception that they should win. For me corruption is when they’re paid or given other benefits for making bad decisions which I don’t think is the case.bripez wrote: ↑16 Nov 2022, 17:22If it was incompetence then it would go both ways and not always in favour of the boxer in the red corner.maverick23 wrote: ↑16 Nov 2022, 16:38 I don’t think the board are corrupt but I think there’s a fair bit of incompetence

Re: Love Boxing, But Hate The BBBofC.
I think its all about being there , having breakfast with the stars , telling there freinds they know and mix with Hearn , Warren , Fury and others , couple of free tickets they can give there freinds , Just like Kugan and the like will not ask a hard question in case they don't get an interview and froze out , hence no hits on u tube , no money coming in , journalist carreer without studying to be a journalist all over
These officials don't want to be froze out either ,, its all a fine line between , being seen to be good and actually being good ,, BBBC would be very disapointed if all of a suden Hearn , Warren , Sky and smaller promoters , decided they were going to go with another body and not bother with the BBBC , So while the bbbc have some teeth , they only show them when its someone without power rest of the time they pretty much tow the line , do just enough occasionaly when they have too and no comebacks ,, Pretty much like the Benn situation ,, remember they only cancelled that fight after a leak .
Corruption , or Incompetence ,, make your own mind up

That Jack Catterall judging was the worst thing I've seen in a British ring.

I don't know how much of that is down to the board as opposed to the change in attitude from Matchroom whilst they were exclusive on Sky. Hearn came out and said it wasn't worth running small hall shows for TV so that put an end to regular live events headlined by a British title fight. If you go back 20 or so years then maybe about 50% or more of Sky's live shows were headlined by these and you were definitely getting more voluntary defences. Without the TV money it's harder to put them on and I wouldn't be surprised if some champs weren't willing to risk a voluntary for a lower purse.maverick23 wrote: ↑16 Nov 2022, 16:38

I'm generally supportive of the Board and can see issues from their point of view but the Connor Benn situation has been an eye opener. How much did they know and when needs answering

Matchroom just wanted to run big arenas so unless it was a really big British title fight then it’d be tough. That doesn’t mean you can’t have a British title fight on the shows though.Greg Houston wrote: ↑17 Nov 2022, 03:26I don't know how much of that is down to the board as opposed to the change in attitude from Matchroom whilst they were exclusive on Sky. We had BT running a small hall show last week with Nick Ball fighting a random. Surely it would have been better for him to fight Nathaniel Collins for the British?! Instead we had Ball withdraw.
There’s more TV money in British boxing than ever before. It’s just that a lot of it is being paid to fighters who are overpaid based on their actual worth and we’re being given uncompetitive fights for random titles.
Take the British heavyweight title. Not contested for 2 years. Surely it was clear after Joyce beat Dubois that he wasn’t going to be defending against Gorman and co. The board should have asked him whether he was planning to defend and if he was then order a fight after 6-9 months. If not, then strip him and get the title active.
We currently have more TV boxing in the U.K. than in the past 15 years or so yet the Heavyweight, Cruiserweight, Super Feather, Featherweight, Bantam and Super Fly belts are vacant. That’s 40% of the titles.

Yes there is a lot that can be done. It just takes, money, organisation and good people.keithmoonhangover wrote: ↑16 Nov 2022, 08:58 The board are at best incompetent and at worst, corrupt.
