Beterbiev is a beast, but unlike Kovalev he will be coming to London and Yarde won’t have to go over and fight in a Russian backwater.

They also have similar dimensions, meaning Yarde will not have to start by trying to get past the jab like he did against Kovalev.

This will be a close quarters war and Beterbiev on his 38 year old legs will have to come through Yarde’s fire power. Anthony is not bringing a water gun to this shindig.

Yes, Beterbiev starts favourite and can clean him out, but this is no easy fight. Yarde has got a good chin- he took multiple power shots from Kovalev and mainly didn’t budge.

He was KO’d at the end out of exhaustion - people love to go on about him going out to a jab, but anything would have put him over at that point. He was inexperienced, plus they got the tactics wrong.
Paddy Power have priced it. 1/12 Beterbiev and 7/1 for Yarde. That’s pretty one sided.

I certainly give Yarde a chance. It’s a punchers chance and it’s a slim one. Perhaps Beterbiev will age quickly as sometimes happens. I doubt it as he looked great against Smith Jr less than 6 months ago who was on a good run himself and almost consistently fighting good opposition. He’s wiping out other champions whilst Yarde’s doing the same against a poor Bulgarian super middleweight.

That’s why few are giving him a chance - he’s yet to beat a legitimate world top 10 fighter. One win at commonwealth/British title level makes it difficult to have loads of confidence in him.

I’d have really wanted Yarde to fight guys like Barrera, Vlasov or even Bolotniks before this. Beterbiev’s also used to fighting in his opponent’s backyard so that won’t faze him either like it has with some opponents that have come over to the U.K. in the past.

He gave an excellent account of himself against Kovalev, and came back better to take care of Lyndon Arthur emphatically after the first debacle. I’m not saying he deserves his shot, but the lad is exciting and he’ll give it everything. Good to see BT backing this too and not shoving this on box office.

Looking forward to it and good to see a big fight in the UK in January.
yarde hardly did a thing outside one big round vs kov. basically just walked forward throwing next to nothing (which resumed pretty much straight after his big round). same thing for the first fight vs arthur, walking forward doing nothing while arthur wins largely by throwing some jabs here and there - nowhere close to going out on his shield. that makes up the only 2 good opponents he's faced

we've already seen him quieted down multiple times when stepping up the levels, dont know how he's a sure thing to lay it on the line, especially if he tastes bert's power early

i guess it balances out the fwanky staffers who say yarde vs bert is THE fight to be made in the lhw division, and that comparing yarde-bert to butler-inoue is up there for the most insane thing they've ever seen on a boxing forum

as far as i see it, there are often soft world title challengers no more deserving than him. bert fought adam denies for example, defo a worse challenger than yarde. and he's got a puncher's chance, which puts him above your total no hopers. but he lost to the only good opponents he's faced (beating one on his second try) and has faced 95 percent stiffs, with many of these guys just being hilariously and needlessly overmatched. it's not like he has 0 percent chance and it would hardly be the biggest shock in the world if he stung bert at some point, but he looks well out of his depth, has a track record of not delivering when he's stepped up, and i think has nothing more than a outside shot.

him being a brit is really the biggest thing that makes him stand out to us in this fight. otherwise it's a guy who old kov ko'd with a jab (yes, it happened), needed 2 trys vs arthur (yes his best win by miles is his 2nd chance vs lyndon arthur), and whose power is there but hasnt done the trick at an especially high level.

whatever happens, i hope we never see him in again with the total trash he's been so fond of in his career. make it buatsi, smith, bolo-richards, or some other top 25 opponent from here on. no more bulgarians with girls names

Agree with the rest of your comments wholeheartedly but it’s very harsh to call Bentley a shrinking violet :shame:

He looked like he was boxing to instructions in terms of how cautious he was early on and after establishing himself in the middle rounds he absolutely looked prepared to go out in his shield in the final third of the fight.

He struggled big time with Kovs jab. Bert has a good jab but is more of a power puncher and hunter. He has been able to catch up with silky guys like Browne and Gvosdyk. Yarde needs to start fast here and go for it. I don't think his defence is going to be good enough to avoid Berts shots if Yarde decides to play a boxing game as better have tried and failed. If Yarde comes to the centre of the ring and commits to going for it, that's his best chance in my view. Bert can be hurt. Bert is just a good technician and throws awkward shots which can come around the guard. Yarde's defence isn't good enough to avoid Berts shots, I'll say that again. I think Yarde can do this but it's a low percentage chance and he needs to go in there to bully Bert. Don't give him any respect.

Tunde was saying at the weekend that Frank was wrong putting it at Wembley Arena. He said tickets would sell out very quickly and that he’d be pushing Frank to move it to the O2.

Bert doesn’t look that big usually. But he looks bigger than Yarde there.

Maybe because he doesn’t have a big physique.

Massacre. 3 rounds tops. Yards got zero chance and nothing that will prepare him for this shellacking

Beterbiev Vs. Yarde “Ends By Stoppage” Predicts Bob Arum

“Absolutely, particularly to the UK,” said Top Rank promoter Bob Arum to Boxing Social about bringing different fighters like Artur Beterbiev to the UK to fight. “The UK is taking over, in a good way, the sport of boxing because the fan interest in the UK surpasses any place in the world.

“I don’t know if it’ll be a routine stoppage, but it’ll be a stoppage one way or the other,” Arum said when asked if this will be a ‘routine stoppage’ for Beterbiev over the 31-year-old Anthony Yarde.

“You’re in with Yarde, who punches very well, and Beterbiev has been down a number of times in his career. So the fight can end either way. One thing I guarantee you, it ends by stoppage.

“If I could say money and not have judges for the fight, I would be very happy,” said Arum.

Artem Dalakian-David Jimenez: WBA Title Fight To Land On Beterbiev-Yarde Show

Artem Dalakian is set to hit the road for his next title defense.

BS.com has confirmed that Dalakian’s mandatory title defense versus Costa Rica’s David Jimenez is now signed and sealed. The bout will take place on January 28 at OVO Arena Wembley in London, in supporting capacity to the Artur Beterbiev-Anthony Yarde lineal/WBC/IBF/WBO light heavyweight championship.

“Artem Dalakian and David Jimenez have signed contracts for the fight,” Dmitry Eliseev, co-founder and vice president of Union Boxing, told Boxing Scene.

The development comes more than two weeks after a deal was reached in principle by both sides, which was good enough to avoid a purse bid hearing being called by the WBA.

Dalakian (21-0, 15 KOs) will attempt the sixth defense of the WBA flyweight title he won in a September 2018 win over former two-division titlist Brian Viloria in Inglewood, California. The balance of his reign has taken place in Ukraine, with all five title defenses taking place in Kiev. However, Dalakian—an Azerbaijan-born boxer who lives in Kiev, Ukraine—has not fought since a ninth-round knockout of Luis ‘Nica’ Concepcion last November 20.

Staging his next fight at home was not at all an option in light of Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine which has left much of the nation in ruins in addition to the unsafe conditions surrounding everyday residents.

There was consideration given to staging the mandatory title fight in Jimenez’s native Costa Rica, which would have allowed promoter Ernesto Salvador’s Fight Club Costa Rica to take the lead. It was since decided that both boxers stood to make far more at a neutral location.

Jimenez (12-0, 9 KOs) emerged as the number-one contender following an upset win over Ricardo Sandoval on July 16 in Los Angeles. Sandoval was the IBF mandatory challenger but never cashed in that opportunity, instead seeking to go the WBA route.

It miserably backfired as he was outworked by Jimenez, a 30-year-old contender from Cartago, Costa Rica who rose to the occasion in his U.S. debut. The fight took place on the undercard of rising lightweight contender Ryan Garcia’s sixth-round knockout of Javier Fortuna, helping raise Jimenez’s profile ahead of his first career title fight.

The winner of the fight will be poised to line up a big opportunity. Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing has begun the groundwork for a potential flyweight tournament in 2023, hoping to land all four titlists in the company’s continued quest to establish an undisputed champion in as many weight divisions as possible.

Matchroom promotes WBC flyweight titlist Julio Cesar Martinez (19-2, 14 KOs; 2 NC) and former 115-pound titleholder Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez (17-0, 11 KOs), who will next face Mexico’s Cristian Gonzalez for the vacant WBO flyweight title.

Rounding out the division is IBF flyweight titlist Sunny Edwards, the best pure boxer in the division. Hearn is working on plans for a Martinez-Edwards unification bout, while Rodriguez—with a win over Gonzalez—could land that winner or whomever emerges victorious in the now-signed Dalakian-Jimenez flyweight title fight.

Top operator is this Beterbiev. Just enjoyed rewatching the Gvosdyk fight. Another class operator was Gvosdyk. Miles ahead of Yarde.

Yarde winning would be one of the very best wins by Brit fighters in a long time.

Think I saw someone shocked that the cheapest tickets for this were 75 quid, is that not normal these days?

What sort of view do you reckon we’re getting in the cheap seats at the O2?
