Nedal Hussain vs. Manny Pacquiao 2000

Post by Grant »

I know this should be in history but don't @ me. This is too important to just file away.
Finally an official has admitted to rigging a fight. Can't believe it but it's true.
https://journalbreak.com/skinny-hussein ... -reaction/
"Together with Padilla in a new interview that almost defies faith, confirming that yes, he did intentionally deceive Hussein, changed history, all of this by not only giving Pacquiao the longest bill, but taking other steps to thwart his loser. Australian rival.

Even worse, the referee even laughs at the fact that he looked at his compatriot so hard that he was “cross-eyed”.

“(But) I’m Filipino and everyone watching the fight is also Filipino,” Padilla said to the camera lens. “So I extended the account. I know how to do it.”

He also grinned when he said that.

Just as a well-known combat official – and a man who oversaw no less than Thrilla in Manila – would go on to say how he also had to deduct a point from Pacquiao for headbutting.

“But I declared it a blow,” he shrugged.

Which again makes a big difference considering it was the same header that hurt Hussein badly enough to see the fight end up brushed off after 10 and the Aussie trailing on all three scorecards after being himself deducted point.

So how did Hussein feel this week when his brother came across an offensive video on the internet and sent it to him seconds later?

At first, the old fighter pauses for almost as long as Padilla counts, trying to find his words.

“You know what,” he starts, “I’m, uh… ahh… buddy, I’m just shocked that he said that.”

And he said it with such arrogance.

“Such pride.

“Because of the truth about that night?”

“Since then, I have never been the same.

“This guy took everything from me.

“He took my soul.”"

Thoughts anyone?

padilla is 100 fvcking years old.

he doesn't give a shit no more what's politically correct or appropiate or even incriminating to say.

most probably suffers from some sort of dementia. just tells it how it is/was.

nothing really shocking there. just stated the obvious, what we all know happens anyways all the time.

WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman told BBC Sport: "The WBC has appointed a committee to look into this matter and we will be working on this situation with full attention."

the count was slow but really nothing out of the ordinary in terms of how much time pac got to recover, a few seconds extra tops with pac already on his feet. biased reffing but pretty standard rather than some huge long count as he waited for pac to get up

further, the claim a headbutt hurt hussein in the 10th isnt right, as it was a large accumulation of punches with a right hook being the most notable shot to start it off. pacquiao was using hussain for target practice for several rounds before that too, whereas this article basically reduces it all to a headbutt.

and for some balance, hussain also blatantly punched pacquiao after the bell multiple times, such as at the end of the 9th, for which he couldve easily been deducted a point but wasnt. it was a messy heated fight all around

seems weird that 22 years later the ref starts giving interviews on the fight tbh

Corruption in boxing, I never noticed anything in all the years I've watched the sport :D
I absolutely believe Paul Williams deserved a draw with Erislandy Lara
We are only about a lifetimes worth of evidence behind before putting a hole in the wrong doings of our sport.
Who are we kidding here, cheating is part and parcel of the sport, it's just something we have become accustomed to over the years unfortunately.

e

everywhere shady stuff is done all the time in boxing. since forever. greed is the name of the game and there's no fair way to play it.

it's like the last unwritten rule of boxing but in reality of all sports.

bend the rules, cheat, bribe, do whatever you gotta do BUT DON'T GET FvCKIn CAUGHT AND DON$T FVCKIN TALK ABOUT IT.

90 year old senile Padilla obviously doesn't give a shit bout the omerta of the biz no more.

naively one would expect at least the referee should be impartial. we all know that's almost never the case either.
