Leigh Wood vs. Mauricio Lara | DAZN - 18 February 2023

Leigh Wood is going to return on 28th January.

He will headline the Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham.

I seen on Twitter that Kiko Martinez has vacated his newly won European belt.

I doubt it will be LSC. So maybe Kiko gets another crack at it.

Who knows. Who would you like to see?

Thoughts?

Also, FVCK boxing!

This is the same night as Beterbiev-Yarde.

I’ll be watching that regardless of who Wood fights.

Has his bicep not recovered enough to fight Lara?

There’s surely no way that Eddie can put this on the same night as Betebiev - Yarde

Why?

The need to do a U.K. show in January. They can’t go 14th as DAZN have to be KSI show, 21st is Eubank/Smith and Beterbiev/Yarde is the 28th. The 7th will be too early in the month and not enough notice for tickets so they’ve gone with the one that will get less notice. First weekend in Feb it looks like they’re going in New York so can’t really do that either.

At least they’re not in the same city this time cannibalising ticket sales.

This weekends shows didn’t look particularly well attended. In the current climate they have to go Friday and Saturday surely? I realise travel might be trickier on a Friday but there’s less sport competing for news space…

It’s just too expensive. A lower tier seat for Eubank v Smith is £250+. I can’t even justify a £500 night for myself let alone my pals.

I love Kiko but can’t be him surely. This is just a mental cycle now.

When you get a list, it’s pretty much always the worse of the 3.

It’s going to be Kiko. Whilst it’s not what we’d want, I still think it could be a fire fight.

Hearn: "Wood Will Be Back Out In January; We're Up For Santa Cruz, Lara, Martinez"

“We’re up for the Santa Cruz fight… Mauricio Lara, Kiko Martinez. Leigh Wood will be back out in January,” Hearn revealed in a recent interview with iD Boxing.

“It’s been ordered for a while. They were both having interim fights but Leigh Wood got injured,” explained Hearn of the last round of negotiations. “We don’t agree with the split which is 75-25 (in Santa Cruz’s favor) but we need to get moving with Leigh Wood’s career. He’s going to fight in January. We’re speaking to PBC, etcetera, and we’ll take it from there.”

Hearn: "We Want Leigh Wood To Fight Jan. 28 - Whether Santa Cruz Or Anyone Else"

“Because of the split, it makes the fight hard to make. Personally, I don’t think Leo Santa Cruz will fight at featherweight again,” Hearn told Boxing Scene. “But we can’t do anything else unless he vacates his belt. So, we are talking to PBC and Luis DeCubas We want Leigh Wood to fight January 28. Whether it’s Leo Santa Cruz or anyone else, we need to get him back in the ring.”

“He really, really wants to fight Josh Warrington and with the WBA and IBF titles at stake. Obviously, Josh Warrington has to beat Luis Alberto Lopez (on Saturday). But after that, Leigh fights in January and then wants to fight Josh Warrington next summer.”

Everybody will be watching the Beterbiev - Yarde fight obviously. Just seems abit unfair on Wood, but no big deal, I will watch it afterwards.

It depends who Wood fights. I’d rather watch Wood/Lara than Beterbiev/Yarde. Yarde/Beterbiev is a fun fight but I think it’s pretty one sided.

DAZN can’t not have a main U.K. show of actual pro boxing in January and there will be far less noise going against this than Eubank/Smirh.

Seems to be a few spinning plates on this one. Starts with whether Josh wins on Saturday, then whether LSC vacates, and then whether Lara will sign for the 28th.

Matchroom UK really almost planning month to month now. 12 events in 2022 (below the 16 announced) and a marked drop-off in quality of shows in the second half of the year.

Sadly true, or sometimes out of the blue an even worse name is pulled out of his arse and we go: WTF :maybe:

Thank goodness Hearn has the sense to move this off Jan 28. Pleasantly surprised they are going for Lara - I thought they would bypass it now. I think Wood gets stopped
