Undisputed champ Taylor – who also has an option to fight 135lbs king Teofimo Lopez – will have a new approach hooking up with trainer Joe McNally after two years with Ben Davison. The champion, speaking to Sky Sports, said: “I'm excited for this new chapter in my career. It's a nice, new, refreshing start. I got to meet him a couple of months back, got talking to him and bounced ideas off him, and I liked the way his mind works, his mindset and ideas.

"I went down and had the trial week with him, and then he came up to Scotland a couple of weeks later and we just hit it off, we just really gelled. He stayed with me for the weekend and we got to really know each other and speak in depth about what we want to do, moving forward.

"I just think I needed a little bit of a change, and it's no aim or dig or anything at Ben or the lads in the gym, I just needed a change. I felt like I was getting a bit stale, and just picking up little bad habits, and taking away from my main attributes and my main strengths.

Catterall: I Think I Won, Josh Taylor Thinks He Won - Let's Get It On!

"I think that's a score we need to settle," Catterall told Sky Sports. "It's a fight that I think needs to happen. I think there's tension there. I believe I won the last fight, Josh thinks he won it, there's a lot of public pressure and demand to see the fight, it's a big fight. It makes sense to me, it makes sense to Josh, let's get it on."

"He's vacated the belts [but retained the WBO title], he's not gone to 147-pounds. The fight's there to be done now," Catterall said.

"That moment's been and gone. I don't believe any time soon anyone's going to challenge in a domestic fight for all four titles. But my goal remains the same. I want to be world champion, I want to be put in the history books and the fact that there's still a world title up for grabs it's certainly more than enough motivation to get it back on."

Josh Taylor Vows To Turn His Back on 'Biased' Media After Knocking Catterall Out

WBO junior welterweight champion Josh Taylor is promising to turn his back on the haters, and the doubters, in the aftermath of a planned rematch with Jack Catterall.

"When I win this fight and all the so-called top boxing pundits, the outlets, want to be your friend again, they can all get to France as far as I'm concerned," Taylor told the Edinburgh Evening News.

"They showed who they wanted to win the fight with all their bias. After the fight it was all 'Jack this and Jack that' but I'm still the champion and I've heard nothing from anyone, and the stuff they have written about me, they've really shown their true colors. It wasn't that when I became the first Briton in the modern era to become undisputed world champion, they didn't want to know.

"It's a grudge match. It's become personal with the things that have been said since the fight like Jack moaning about corruption and all this sh!t. There's a bit of needle there so I'm going to get in the ring and knock him out this time."

To prepare for the rematch, Taylor parted ways with head trainer Ben Davison and hired Joe McNally, who works with Liam Smith among others.

"I just felt like I needed a change so there was no fall-out or anything like that with Ben," Taylor explained. "We're still good friends, but I just needed to do what's best for my career. I learned a lot from Ben and am grateful for the time we had."

Jack Catterall questions Josh Taylor's decision to change trainer just before their rematch

Betfred’s Lightweight Boxing Show have been speaking to Jack Catterall regarding his rematch with Josh Taylor for the WBO light-welterweight title, and Taylor’s link-up with trainer Joe McNally.

“In my opinion, you would need a few fights to get settled with new methods. When I joined Jamie [Moore], it took me three or four fights before I was able to embed the things I’ve been working on. I don’t think Joe can change him overnight. It will be interesting.”

Jack Catterall on Josh Taylor’s switch of trainer:

“I don’t know Joe McNally personally but Josh has been in there a matter of weeks now and the fight is 12-14 weeks away. I don’t know if you can change somebody who’s boxed a certain way, over a long period like Josh has. In my opinion, you would need a few fights to get settled with new methods. When I joined Jamie [Moore], it took me three or four fights before I was able to embed the things I’ve been working on. I don’t think Joe can change him overnight. It will be interesting.”

Jack Catterall on whether he feels more pressure into the rematch:

“Nothing’s really changed apart from more eyes being on the fight. I’m very grateful for that and I’ve had a lot of support since the last fight, but I keep myself grounded as I’ve got a great team, a great family and great friends around me. They will keep me where I need to be. Ultimately, the fight is going to grow in exposure and that’s a good thing for me. Hopefully everybody can see me become world champion.”
