The knockdown rule. Ended the first round early. Jumped in at first opportunity and called the fight after the bell.
There was no 3 knockdown rule in force.

The ref doesn’t control the timekeeping. At the time of the bell going Dubois was taking a count anyway - it wouldn’t have given Larena time to do anything afterwards.

Larena was being battered with big punches and was hurt bad- he was done.
Happy with corruption as long as it favours the Brit.

The fight should be called when fighters go down by themselves without taking a punch and the bell ringing 10 seconds earlier is, in my opinion, clear and disgusting corruption.

It says a lot that it's defended by many on here.
What are you taking about 😂 There is no 3 KD rule in British rings. The last 2 times he went down voluntarily without being hit, so basically he took a knee- that’s allowed in boxing. A ref is not going to stop a fight in those circumstances - that it total nonsense.

The bell going early is unfortunately quite common - as I’ve pointed out though and you can go back and watch it again, in reality it had no impact on the result.

I deal in facts/reality not over reactions and nonsense

"Corruption is common so it's ok"

Fair enough, not going to argue with that. You're entitled to hold your view as much as I disagree.

We are not going to agree on the circumstances of the bout. I think it was a disgusting shambolic corrupt set of behavior from the officials, you don't, and that's fine. It's the Brit forum so no surprise there.

Daniel Dubois could face investigation after 'objection' lodged over two complaints

Daniel Dubois vs Kevin Lerena remains shrouded in controversy.

An objection has been lodged to the WBA and British Boxing Board of Control by Kevin Lerena’s representatives regarding what they describe as “biased” and “loyal” refereeing towards opponent Daniel Dubois in the South African’s last outing. Lerena claims that a short round and quick stoppage prevented him from snatching the WBA regular belt from his heavily favoured foe.

The pair met each in the co-main event on the Tyson Fury vs Derek Chisora bill and had fans on their feet throughout. Dubois – who was listed as a huge -1250 favourite by Vegas betting lines – was caught on the top of the head by the first significant shot landed by Lerena and was sent tumbling to the canvas.

Despite beating the count, Dubois appeared to be unsteady on his feet after falling awkwardly on his knee. Triple D was then downed two more times as Lerena pilled on the pressure. The round ended midway through the third count – which Lerena says came 11 seconds early.

“I landed him flush on the top of the head which obviously sent shockwaves down his body, resulting in obviously a twisted ankle or knee, whatever it was – but let’s not forget that the punch that dropped him is what damaged his leg,” said Lerena in a video uploaded to his social media channels.

“Then obviously he gets back up to his feet unsure of what happened. I try put the pressure on him again, he takes a knee. The ref counts him up again. He gets back to his feet, I try put the pressure on him again to end him.

“He takes a knee, and then there was that moment which the round was obviously ended at two minutes 49 seconds, which allowed Daniel to go back to his corner and recover.

“In his corner, he said to his trainer ‘what happened?’ So he obviously didn’t see the shot that landed him and was not compos mentis.

“I do feel we were hard done by the end of the round because a lot can happen in 11 seconds. Had I managed to get another flurry in on him, land him with telling shots like I landed him that dropped him, it could have been the end of the fight.”

After a cagey second round, Dubois came back to stop Lerena at the end of the third in a stoppage that Lerena claims was too early. “He caught with me a superb uppercut through the middle. When he caught me I felt it happening the whole time, so it wasn’t like I wasn’t there or didn’t know what was happening. I then heard the bell go at the end of the round, and that was it, it was over,” he added.

“So obviously I was hurt from being dropped and I got rocked on the ropes, but I wasn’t down on my back. I honestly feel I should’ve been given the minute to recover like Daniel was given the minute to recover. Obviously referee Howard Foster didn’t feel that way, but I believe in cases like this, in championship fights, you have to give the fighter the benefit of the doubt to recover.”

Now, promoter Rodney Berman of Golden Gloves SA, has revealed that they intend to lodge an official complaint regarding the officiating.

“An objection will be lodged with the WBA and the British Boxing Board of Control – Lerena was very hard done by by a biased “loyal referee.” Fighters cannot be allowed to be treated so unfairly,” Berman tweeted.

Watched the fight again today. Cannot believe Lerena in that 2nd round.
The shot definitely looked to have taken Dubs’ legs away instead of an injury.
Dubois looked more confused that his legs were betraying him rather than an actual injury.

Shane is saying his knee has swollen. He said he did it hyper extending it when standing up for the count on wobbly legs.

Fair enough. But he was definitely staggered by Lerana’s left hand.

He threw a punch then doubled over in pain and took a knee, I thought he'd hurt his hand, but it was from putting weight on his foot, this was confirmed in the corber

Definite injury, as for the three knockdown rule, what do you when a fighter takes a knee without taking a punch, he gave him a count but it wasn't a knockdown so should have just said get up or it's a stoppage/DQ??

It's a stoppage in my book. I remember Cotto did it against Margarito and Baylis did give him a short count but then waved it off. Dubois did it twice. It's rare to see it but I really don't think it's right that when you are hurt and have already been down you can just take a knee without being hit and get more time to recover.... twice.

There will be a rematch no doubt which will be a bigger draw as a result of the way this one went .
I dont have any issue with the stoppage or the 3 Kd rule which is as clear as mud anyway but timekeeping is another matter and some scrutiny should be in place if the rounds end early or late - FFS they dont have wind up clocks any more !
DDD stops Lerena again in the rematch under 3 rounds - apart from the top of the head shot Lerena had nothing much and failed to capitalise when Dubois was wobbly .
is Dubois up at the top level ? of course not and he knows that but he is young still learning and keen to push on to bigger things .

Dubois' next opponent will likely be Charr/Browne winner. Of the others ranked by WBA, Lenoir Pero and Guidry look like Dubois' usual opponents. Miller is also on there so could be an easy target while he is nowhere near at a high level. Dubois Vs Whyte would be the best possible fight in my opinion but it's pretty unlikely.

Completely agree Leprechaun.

Sounds fishy to me. When i had a torn ACL I could not even walk on it without nearly falling over.
DDD getting up and going 2 more rounds sounds unbelievable.

This reminds me of the post fight press conference for Clay-Liston. One of Liston's team held up an X-ray supposedly of Sonny's shoulder and one of the journalists remarked, "I wonder who's X-ray that is?"

a torn acl leaves other pro athletes writhing in pain on the ground, unable to move and out of commission for a long time. ddd on the other hand recovers from it with a 1 minute round break, showing no indication of pain afterward. what a beast! they should study him for the benefit of other athletes.

In the future, people will have DDD leg. It fixes itself after you get knocked down three times, then after you've finished a boxing contest, done interviews and walk out of the arena, it goes again. Remarkable.
