Check mate!
How many years did Saldivar have off?

Is Legra in the IBHOF?

Was Legra a World Champion?
Saldivar was almost off for two years. One year difference makes it better?

And yes, Jose Legra should be in the hall of fame. He won over 107 fights and was a Two-time world featherweight champion. Saldivar beat him. A big obstacle to get the title back.

And then, he beat another guy that should be in the hall of fame. He beat the great Fighting Harada at least once.

That to me is much more incredible and impressive than Sugar Ray win over Marvelous. And Saldivar didn't have to ask for thumbless gloves, bigger ring, offer more money, heavier gloves and all those stipulations to fight someone good.

Johnny Famechon beat Fighting Harada and Saldivar beat him to get the title back. Impressive.

And see, then people talk that I don't know about boxing. I don't say that about Keith. He really doesn't know that Jose Legra was a world champion. SMH

Saldivar was off for 3 years. And of course, Legra should be in the hall of fame. If overrated Barry McGuigan is in, Jose Legra and a bunch of others, like Johnny Famechon should be in, too.
Ever thought of looking something up? Just because you keep saying Saldivar was off for 3 years doesn't make it so.
He fought Winstone on October 14, 1967. He fought Legra on July 18, 1969. That is three months short of 2 years.

To answer Keith's other question, Legra was not the world champion. Nor is he in the IBHOF.

I hope you know that you sound like a total douche. I am not a Leonard fan, Never liked his personality at all he seemed fake. But even as an admitted hater I can admit beating Hagler after such a lengthy retirement is a feat that would be next to impossible to top.
You lost the debate.
Oh and you are still a douche :TU:

And what time got to do with it? If you're out for a certain amount of time in boxing and come back and win, is still an accomplishment what Saldivar has done. And he did it against 2, not one. Guys that you know that they should be in the hall, also.

Saldivar didn't have to ask Legra nor Famechon for bigger gloves, bigger ring, thumbless gloves and all those stipulations. Leonard did. That's why that Sugar Ray's "comeback" is overrated and blown out of proportion.

Plus, Famechon nor Legra were fading.

I loved the part where he said "what does time have to with it? "

Almost as good: "Jersey Joe Walcott wasn't fighting in his 4th weight class. He wasn't washed up, either."
"Archie Moore was still relevant as light-heavyweight world champion when he defeated all those guys."

So if a guy is not washed up when he old, then we can't count his wins.

So, when Leonard missed almost 3 years of boxing that means that Saldivar gotta miss almost 3 years and a day? Does that make it better? Or Saldivar got to miss 4 years?

It doesn't matter. Saldivar has missed a lot of time away from the ring. That's the same thing with Leonard. The DIFFERENCE is that Saldivar didn't pay Legra or Famechon 15 million dollars, neither he enlarged the ring, nor use thumbless gloves nor cut the rounds like Leonard did against Marvelous.

What Leonard did, to me, wasn't nothing to be awed about like the American media wanted to play it as an achievement made put of heaven. SMH.

I wonder if Mosley beating Margarito counts? He was coming off losses, and a big underdog going against Margarito, and then never really managed another significant win in his career after Margarito. Was he washed up when he beat the guy that was at the time the #1 ranked Welterweight?

He had to miss as much time as Leonard. He didn't. So no, it's not the same. The longer that you are off, the harder is it is. Thought you could figure that one out.
Legra was not in Hagler's league as a fighter. Though Legra was better than Iran Barkley.

Hagler and Leonard fought in the same ring. Both used thumbless gloves. Hagler agreed to it.

Oh, so Saldivar had to miss one more day to be better than Leonard's layoff?

I agree that Legra is not in Marvelous' league. I'll give you that one.

But, I know that you won't give me that Legra was prime and Marvelous was on the way down. He was fighting 1 fight a year since 1985. One fight.

Marvelous had to agree to all Sugar Ray's stipulations. That's logical. He wasn't going to let slip $15 million dollars like he did in 1982. You got the point?

He has three points and they're all quite simple.

Jose Legra was better than Marvin Hagler, and Iran Barkley was better than both of them put together.
Three years, and one year and ten months are actually the same amount of time.
Roberto Duran only ever lost when he couldn't be bothered and he was essentially unbeaten for his entire career.

He had at least two more:

-Ray Leonard was not a real fighter.
-Duran is the only fighter to ever move up in weight.
