Still time I suppose but Lewis Ritson. Sky were pushing him big and he was filling Newcastle Arena, until the wheels fell off...

Twice. Not sure he counts or could have done much more tbh. Wasn’t gonna live with MAB, morales or Marquez at the time. Maybe tapia and Juarez could have been fun fights.Terminator666 wrote: ↑18 Dec 2022, 08:02 Scott Harrison- I know he won the wbo title but could have done a lot more.

The phrase “it’s all about levels” applies to lots of fighters. They can look great in fights but as soon as they are against the very best they can look average. A lot boils down to being fed average fighters they can look good against in the first place.

Pele Reid looked and acted the part before it all fell apart

Andy Morris looked like he could have went further than British, took Rendall Monroe's 0 before we knew how good Rendall was, beat John Simpson for the British then despite looking comfortable lost the rematch on a cut then got stopped heavily in the third fight so his regression was apparent , think he had real trouble making the weight, but he had so many nice tools though , really smooth to watch Shannon's gym youtube channel l has a lot of his fights

Depends as it's all about levels , the step up from British to Euro/World can be too much for most really.
I thought Maurice Core looked good till he took on Tozzio .

I know he won a version of a world title but Herbie Hide didn't seem to fulfil his potential. He wasn't really a natural HW and maybe should've boxed at CW. Great talent with a huge punch, he don't really have the dedication needed at the top level though.

If he'd stayed at Cruiser he could have achieved a lot more.Controversial wrote: ↑18 Dec 2022, 12:32 I know he won a version of a world title but Herbie Hide didn't seem to fulfil his potential. Yes I was fully on the Ritson express after those four brutal knockouts in a row (Cardle, Murray, Hyland, umm..) all inside 3 rounds. It seemed domestically he was an absolute beast!
Then, as you say, outside of the UK the wheels kinda fell off and he has clocked up some fairly heavy milage since. And yes, 29 there is still time, he just isn't knocking them out like he was..

True - there is a big step between European and proper world level.Controversial wrote: ↑18 Dec 2022, 08:39 The phrase “it’s all about levels” applies to lots of fighters. A significant number of British "World" champions over the last 20 years were really good level British/European level and were helped by the number of governing bodies plus certain promoters connections with certain bodies.
The number of British World champions who made defences against other British boxers is evidence of this.

Herol Graham is an obvious one, British, Commonwealth, European and International titles. Good enough to beat anyone on his day but fell short in his 3 world title shots.

How about the late Dean Francis. He was looking so good before the shoulder issue ruined everything.

I was watching some of Oliver's fights on youtube a few weeks back - great little fighter with a good engine. I was no big Hamed fan but i think he would have got Spence out of there pretty quickly
Re: Brits Who Looked Like A World Beater, But Never Made It.
Kirkland Laing has to be one of the most talented British fighters never to have fought for a World title. Presumably if he was around in this multi-belt era he would have got a shot at one of them...

No money there tho. He earned a lot at heavyweight didn’t he?keithmoonhangover wrote: ↑18 Dec 2022, 12:42If he'd stayed at Cruiser he could have achieved a lot more.Controversial wrote: ↑18 Dec 2022, 12:32 I know he won a version of a world title but Herbie Hide didn't seem to fulfil his potential. Neville Brown could look smooth as anything at British level, it just never transposed when stepping up beyond that
