Funny, each of these guys are fantastic fighters that never quite made it to the very top of the HW division.
Btwn the 3 fighters themselvs, Bonavena had a win over Chuvalo and Chuvalo had a win against Quarry.
Joe Frazier was one of the common opponents for each. He had 2 TKO wins over Quarry (rd. 5+7), won a split decision and a UD over Bonavena. And finally had a TKO win in 4 over Chuvalo.
Ali also a common opponent had TKO wins over Quarry (rd. 3+7). He had a TKO win over Bonavena in 15 and won a UD over Chuvalo.
Quarry was 0-4 (3 KO) in Title fights against great competition.
Bonavena was 1-2 in Title fights, winning the FAB (Argentine) against Gregorio Peralta
Chuvalo was 5-7 in title fights but those 5 wins were as the Canadian Champ.
Very close call on ranking theese 3 but if I had to Id say...Quarry~Bonavena~Chuvalo

quarry is in a league above these guys. quarrys a top 25 heavyweight of all time. dont even get me started on that fluke chuvalo KO loss where jerry completley was fine but misinterpretated the count after giving george a shellacking the first 6 rounds.
bonaevena was a very good fighter. clearly # 2 guy.
chuvalo was good but hes clearly # 3. he didnt possess the all around skill and tools that bonevena and quarry had.

Marciano had the skill level of a club fighter. jerry quarry on the other hand was a great fighter. he was a legit white hope. he beat the big young black fighters...the type of fighters marciano was afraid of. hows marciano going to beat quarry, wut with his punching ability?? rocky marciano threw slow and telegraphed punches(max baer had much faster handspeed).
chuvalo-marciano would look like chuvalo-jones except marciano wouldnt last as long cause he wasnt as fast as jones. u see rocky marciano threw slow and telegraphed punches(max baer had much faster handspeed).
bonavena-marciano = frazier-bonavena I except marciano doesnt make it out of the 2nd round.

Max Baer did have much faster handspeed. That much is true. He also was a magnificent physical specimen when he trained hard. In his exhibition with Jack Dempsey, Max Baer was ripped and didn't have an ounce of fat on him. He looked truly imposing and dwarfed the smaller Dempsey.BrocktonBlockbuster49 wrote:Marciano had the skill level of a club fighter. jerry quarry on the other hand was a great fighter. he was a legit white hope. he beat the big young black fighters...the type of fighters marciano was afraid of. hows marciano going to beat quarry, wut with his punching ability?? rocky marciano threw slow and telegraphed punches(max baer had much faster handspeed).

How about Razor Ruddock, Dave Jaco, and Gerrie Coetzee?
Ruddock KO 1 Marciano
Jaco KO 1 Marciano
Coetzee KO 1 Marciano

Don't exaggerate. David Jaco was known as a slow starter. TKO2 or 3, maybe even 4.evndrbsn wrote:Max Baer did have much faster handspeed. That much is true. You caught me there. Round 4 though? Don't push it. Only if Marciano's mob money was paying Jaco to carry him. Jaco TKO 2, after sixteen knockdowns.pundit wrote:Don't exaggerate. Yeah, and Jaco was a real HW. Vingo may have been 6-4, but he was a real skinny guy. Probably only weighed something like 150 lbs.BrocktonBlockbuster49 wrote:look at how many times 6'4 carmine vingo tagged rocky marciano. he nearly knocked rocky out. rocky simply couldnt deal with the tall man. imagine wut a 6'6 dave jacos punches would do to marciano.
We need RazorKO's opinion on this. He could provide some indepth analysis we could only pretend to muster up.BrocktonBlockbuster49 wrote:look at how many times 6'4 carmine vingo tagged rocky marciano. he nearly knocked rocky out. rocky simply couldnt deal with the tall man. imagine wut a 6'6 dave jacos punches would do to marciano.
On the subject of Vingo-Marciano, what is the deal with the tiny clip available of the fight? I finally got it and the quality wasn't that bad, and it is in color to boot! Where the hell is the rest of the fight?
