Funso's heavyweight wishlist 2023

Post by funso banjo baby »

My possibly controversial wishlist for 2023
I would ppv for any of these (as long as the undercard was packed) !!

This list is based on being only able to see one fight per fighter (obviously I'd like to see many different combinations, but this is the ultimate list)

Fury v Joyce (two giants throwing anvils for the linear crown) :TU:

Joshua v Whyte 2 (the rematch just gets the nod over a Wilder v Whyte grudge match) :salut:

Wilder v RUIZ (who in America or elsewhere wouldn't want to see this?) :bag:

Usyk v Sanchez (I actually find the heavyweight Usyk quite dull, put him in with Sanchez, an underrated smaller fighter with skills)

Wardley v Hughie Fury (I'm a big fan of Wardley and don't rate Hughie too highly) :OhYes:

Fisher v Adeleye (a lovely British scrap between novices. Rough v smooth) :box:

Bakole v Dubois (last chance saloon for big bangers) :stop:

Hrgovic v Larduet (former amateurs get it on again) :D

R. Torres v Arreola (another all out war, don't blink) :box:

Balogun v Shaw (decent matchup) :TU:

Anderson v zhang (another clash of titans) :bag:

Shwartz v Mezencev 3. (this time mezencev prevails)

And finally just for fun a couple of demolitions due to these two....

Makhmudov v Charr (cos Manuel deserves another drubbing) :KO:

Kossubutskiy v Kharitonin (who acted all hard beating up Danny williams recently :shame: and definitely deserves some tender licks ;-)

Happy new year, innit :yay:

I do like Anderson-Zhang, haven't seen that one before. I think Anderson-Franklin or Anderson-Whyte would be good also; a legitimate top contender should beat both.

wilder vs ruiz is the one that MAYBE there's a tiny chance it could materialize.

the 2 top american heavyweights, former champs, a real clash of styles. like u said, who wouldn't like to see that?

in the build up wilder can't help but again put the craziest shit ever out there(one would think we heard it all from deontay but once fired up, guaranteed he will again come up with the most outlandish shit, one doesn't even have to dig deep, just ask one question and let him babble on for 20 minits)

Richard Torrez vs Areola? It is a little early for that fight and Torrez is my favorite prospect

There are many, many interesting matchups that can be made at heavyweight, but sadly, just two of the top 25 heavyweights are currently scheduled (Wallin vs TBA and Parker vs a cruiserweight).

https://boxrec.com/en/ratings?r%5Brole% ... %5D=&r_go=

The promoters and managers seem to have become lazy. Many heavyweights want to fight, but their promoters are keeping them inactive.

Zhang, Hrgovic, Bakole, Ruiz, Ortiz, Demirezen, Gassiev and others should be scheduled by now.

:TU: I like Torrez but it's way too early for that.

Torrez I think is rated #135 in the world according to BoxRec and #37 in America. Arreola, as it stands, is unrated by BoxRec because of their inactivity policy but Arreola is still a solid top 50 world ranked heavyweight, arguably top 20. It's a bridge too far.

A step up for Torrez would be someone like Hasim Rahman Jr or Kenzie Morrison, and even that might be a step too far at this point.

I'd rather see Usyk vs Fury than all those fights combined.

Same, favourite HW prospect.
I think Areola is a bit past prime for Richard T.
Ruiz vs Torrez is more 50/50 for my liking if we are having a wish list.
Size wise it's perfect.

I was wanting Torrez vs Rivas by the end of 2023. But with Rivas career in limbo it is out of the question now

Yes, shame that. But Rivas just wasn't getting the fights either, too much risk vs zero reward in this risk averse boxing world we find ourselves in :verysad:

Not really

I just think he's dull at heavyweight

Tbh I don't often ppv and as a result I've never even seen more than a few mins of Fury v Klit , Joshua v RUIZ 2 , and both Joshua v Usyk fights

And I'm not sure I've missed much

I'm alone is this ?

Winner of Wilder vs Ruiz to fight Fury.

Joyce vs Joshua

Torrez to fight someone in top 50

Uysk vs one of the above names other than Torrez.

Anderson vs someone in top 20 at least.
