Barry Hearn reveals his son Eddie WON'T let him into boxing meetings any more because he's too HONEST - as the 74-year-old admits tensions in the Matchroom Sport promotion company they run together

Barry Hearn has opened up on tensions at the Matchroom Sport promotion company he runs with son Eddie.

Boxing promotion giant Eddie took over from his father as Matchroom chairman in April 2021 and manages some of the biggest fighters in the world, including Anthony Joshua, Dmitry Bivol, Conor Benn, Devin Haney, Katie Taylor and Canelo Alvarez.

And Hearn Snr told Framed: The Snooker Podcast that he has been banned from attending boxing meetings by Eddie - because he's too honest.

He said: 'I'd like to think I'm a really nice person. But I do set very high standards and although that sounds easy, I try to live them myself as well.

'So as you get older - and richer - that helps, you tend to tell the truth all the time. Before, you told the odd porky to get what you wanted.

'I mean, my son won't let me into boxing meetings anymore. He says 'Dad, don't be so honest with everyone'. But I feel cleansed when I'm honest and I don't when I tell lies. And I don't need to tell lies.'

Last week, undefeated British cruiserweight Lawrence Okolie ditched Hearn and Matchroom and signed with Boxxer for his next fight, a WBO title defence against David Light in London in March 2023.

Writing on Twitter in November, Okolie said: 'Can't lie this year was turning me off boxing. Dirty, lying, narcissistic individuals who 'run' the sport. How I feel right now... reminds me that that's a selfish outlook, our fights mean so much more to so many more people than ourselves.'

It is believed that Okolie was speaking about Hearn - who hit back and told iFL TV: 'The last thing we ever wanna do is go to court with a fighter, but I will never let someone take the p*** out of the loyalty/job we've delivered for them.'

I don't think honest means what It used to mean. These days people who say they are too honest are usually just assholes or narrow minded.
