Boxing is becoming more and more of a joke if these champions had any credibility at all they would throw their belts right into the trash cans and say that without the fighters the organizations true they are powerless.

What this sport needs is less belts which makes competition all the more exciting and no arguments as to who is the best per organization per division. What boxing doesn't need is these Jerry Springer freak show attractions.
so you want trans people to be able to fight women then? did you read what is actually happening?

it's a perfectly sensible decision, trans people should be able to box too, but not born men vs born women
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't this something that trans people would reject? They don't seem to want a new category. Rather they would want to compete as women, against women. I am not saying whether this is right or wrong but just setting the record straight. Trans people are already competing in many female sports and none have created a unique transgender category from my understanding. I would have thought that the expectation for transgender fighters would be that they compete in the female divisions, not some new trangender division. Do we have any transgender posters here who could verify this?

i have no idea what trans people think, there are hardly any of them, such a tiny portion of the population that gets a massively disproportional amount of attention. but they should fight each other if they are going to fight

someone like homi moans about women having to fight transpeople, obviously without evening having read the article

In a nutshell.

Trans woman can only fight trans woman.

Trans man can only fight trans man.

It’ll be their own little sport.
There it is. And it's surely a step forward.

I’m sure i see someone saying the other day there are at least 7 different sexes.

Surely then the WBC have put out a weak half measure here.

Think of all the aspiring fighters born or adopting one of these sexes that will feel marginalised by this.

Non binarys for example who wish not to be identified should have there own division too.

That’s what I said in an earlier post - some people will regard this as trans-exclusionary. Those people should be ignored.

Hopefully the forward-thinking WBC will also change the men's category to "Cis Gender Male" as a mark of respect.

Unfortunately in sport you can have inclusion OR fairness, so unfortunately whatever the trans think is irrelevant. Going through puberty as a male confers lifelong benefits when it comes to strength/power and it can't be undone by testosterone suppressants.

In other sports the authorities have deemed that transgender athletes who reach a certain threshold should compete vs women. Transgender fighters have fought against women in MMA bouts. I'm not giving my opinion as to what should or shouldn't happen. I was just looking for clarification on it as this does appear to be a slap in the face to the trans rights activists who would be campaigning for the exact opposite and would want to compete vs women, not other transgender athletes. So it's either a tone deaf move from the WBC or an official stance has been taken that no transgender athletes will be allowed to face women.

I think this is a real test of the transgender movement. Will they fight for the right to compete against women in combat sports?

Transgender women should not fight biological women but they should be able to get the chance the box. Will be really hard because of the numbers but thats life.

The people in this thread who can't read and want to get their agenda across without even reading the original post

This is the only safe and accessible solution for transgender athletes in combat sports and WBC have made the right decision but this will make up less than 1% of the boxing fights and the quality is unlikely to be at a decent level for a number of years.

Another interesting perspective that I had not thought of until now is that there could be out there a boxer who has not transitioned because they don't want to lose their career and their passion, this would allow them to do so.

Realistically it will probably start with no more than couple of hundred boxers worldwide which then has to be spread across however many divisions and then split in two for the two classes of transgender. 5 would probably be a good round number to start with but there will be more larger Trans Women boxers and more smaller trans men boxers. A positive if that we might actually get to see some women's heavyweight matches

If you want to know what "trans people think", perhaps you can tell us what men think, on every subject under the sun. becuase personally I've noticed even from this forum that in many cases, some men can have different opinions from other men. I have even met - and hold your hat on, this will blow your mind - but I have even met, in real life, men with whom I disagree on some subjects.

Extraordinary, I know, but there it is.

I think there really just heading it off at the pass ,, Its only a matter of time some bloke is going to cotton on to the fact that , if he says he identifies has a woman , he would probably smash Ebonie or skye , and not in the way most would like too ,,, so he fights them smashes them makes money , or the WBC say no not allowed your a man with a cock and were not letting you fight women , so he does the thing they all do and thats , SUE THEM .

Or they can just head it off at the pass bring in a new transgender catergory and he can only fight another male with a cock who pretends he's a woman ,, good call the way i see it .

Oh and has i've said many a time i don't like womens boxing much , but i would hate males fighting females just because they think there a female , good call by the WBC ,, JUST A SHAME WE LIVE IN SUCH A WORLD WHERE THEY HAVE TOO COVER THERE ARSES WITH STUPID STUFF LIKE THIS

The bolded is exactly what they've done. The WBC have taken an official position that transgender will be it's own category rather than shoe horning them into existing categories. Many people may not be happy about it but as I said, you can have inclusion or fairness, not both. The science is pretty clear-cut on maintained advantage so I think the WBC have actually made a good decision, for once. World rugby ruled similar but left it York national associations to decide. Unfortunately (for many reasons!) boxing doesn't have one ruling world body.

Who cares if trans people reject it? Biological men should not be allowed to fight biological women in professional combat sport.
