Super Welterweights: Emile Griffith vs. Fernando Vargas

15 Rounds Super Welterweight Bout

Griffith would wear the Ferocious One down by out-boxing him on the outside behind his jabs and combinations to either decision or stop him in late rounds. What do you guys think and who do you got?

Vargas was a good, game fighter. Exciting, skilled, aggressive and sharp punching. However, Griffith is an ATG with a beautiful repertoire of technical skills. Probably much less killer instinct after the Paret tragedy. Incredible that he was able to hang so well with Monzon especially in their second fight as Griffith was past his prime. Also, he nearly upset Dagge in Germany in '76.
Vargas would give it his all, but it wouldn't be enough against the brilliant Griffith.

Vargas would do well to hang in the whole distance here. He'd win some rounds here and there perhaps, but Griffith wins at least 9 rounds in a 12 rounder.
