Light-Heavyweights: Bob Foster vs Roy Jones, Jr.

Post by elmersalsa »

Both were dominant champions at 175lbs. One was able to win a piece of the heavyweight crown, but the other one failed to at least beat a good heavyweight. Who wins?

Although the great Roy Jones, Jr speed could befuddle the great Bob Foster a little bit, I still pick The Sheriff in this interesting bout.

Your picks.

Foster would out-box Jones on the outside behind his long left jabs along with a combination of right hands and left hooks to either take a decision or late round stoppage.

I don't think that that would have been the outcome. Bob Foster's chin was a good one, at least at light-heavyweight.

They could have fought 10x and Jones would not have knocked Foster out. Jones simply didn't have the power.

Foster dominates-If Jones fights to survive this goes the route.

For such a huge puncher Foster would definitely have a KO chance, but Jones was much faster and had better reflexes. Roy by dec or late stoppage.

The only way this could end is Jones face first on the canvas leg twitching. Foster by 5th round knockout.

I think that the great Roy Jones, Jr would be intimidated by the reach and height advantages and the punching power that the great Bob Foster possessed.

Foster was also an underrated boxer when he wanted to. He reminds me a lot of the great Thomas Hearns.

As great as Roy Jones Jr. was at light heavyweight, Foster's height and reach would be too much for Jones to handle. While Jones have his moments, but Foster would stick his jabs on the outside and nailing him with good right hands and left hooks to either take a decision or late round stoppage under the 15 rounder.

Probably Roy Jones, Jr was the fastest fighter of hand and foot speed that I have ever seen. What was scary was that even when he used to go in weight, the speed and power were intact. He was too damn fast. He had also some tremendous reflexes. It was hard to catch him. His speed and boxing IQ was also unbelievable. What a talented fighter!

But, Bob Foster was a beast at light-heavyweight. He had fast hands, not as fast as Jones, but were fast. And that right hand and left hook used to put you to sleep until the 20000th count. He could really hit. For a tall guy, he could also fight well inside. And was an underrated boxer when he needed to box.

I don't know of the two, who had better competition at 175lbs. I will lean towards Foster's quality of opposition was better than Jones's
