Gennady Golovkin vs. Michael Zerafa - Verbal Agreement

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Aussie boxing villain secures shock GGG fight, then wants Tszyu in epic ‘bigger than Mundine-Green’

A year ago, he was Australia’s greatest sporting villain.

Now, Michael Zerafa is set to headline one of the biggest fights ever held Down Under.

In what shapes as one of the nation’s great redemption stories, Zerafa has exclusively revealed to Fox Sports Australia he and boxing megastar Gennady Golovkin have “verbally agreed” to fight for his middleweight world titles in Australia next March.

Apart from fighting for gold, the 30-year-old also revealed that should he dethrone the legend dubbed Triple G, he will then demand an Australian superfight with Tim Tszyu – the arch rival he sensationally walked out on last year.

“And that fight,” Zerafa says, “will be bigger than even Anthony Mundine versus Danny Green”.

Yet before his attempt at national sporting history, Australia’s boxing bad boy must first survive — somewhat surprisingly — a highly anticipated return to national TV screens later this month.

Set to be announced at a Sydney press conference today, Zerafa has signed on to be the co-main event on Paul Gallen’s boxing farewell against Queenslander Justin Hodges.

I read that he'd fight Falcao on DAZN... We don't know when that'll be though.

Looks like he's trying to fight on all continents..

This is just Zerafa talking, so we don't know how to take it..

id take this with a grain of salt, this just sounds like zerafa running his mouth and ggg already has mandatories

sadly this would still be better than charlo, munguia, jani (aka father of andrade), and lara's last fights, lol mw is such a sh!thouse right now

GGGs true prime was probably 8 or 9 years ago… if he wants to fight winnable fights defending his title I’m fine with it.

That said I think zerapha is just chatting shit.

Michael Zerafa Says He’s Gennady Golovkin’s “Biggest Payday”

What will Gennady Golovkin do this year? Last seen losing his trilogy fight with bitter rival Canelo Alvarez, GGG still holds a couple of middleweight belts and he is not a retired fighter. Golovkin has a number of options open to him, and Australia’s Michael Zerafa says a fight with himself is GGG’s “biggest payday.”

Zerafa, speaking with Fox Sports Australia, said his team are currently in talks with four fighters – GGG, Erislandy Lara, Janibek Alimkhanuly, and Esquiva Falcao, and that he will be “fighting for a world title next, regardless.”

Golovkin is the current WBA and IBF champ, Lara holds the WBA “regular” strap, and Alimkhanuly is the WBO champ, while Falcao is the number one ranked fighter with the IBF at the weight (and there is some talk that GGG could vacate the belt, having until February to defend against Falcao or vacate the title).

But Zerafa wants the Golovkin fight above any and all other possible fights, and he says a fight would bring GGG a huge Australian payday.

“And Golovkin is the fight I want,” Zerafa said. “I know he thinks I’m the easiest fight out there for him. And that’s fine. But I’m also his biggest payday. His three options right now are to fight me, Lara or Falcao. And of those, I represent the most money. With all the backing I’ve got to bring that fight to Australia, I know he’s definitely interested. And Zerafa Vs. Triple G……it even has a nice ring to it. But regardless, I’m fighting for a world title next.”

Zerafa, perhaps best known for his two battles with countryman Jeff Horn, is currently 31-4(19) and the 30 year old has won his last four fights. Golovkin has reportedly been in talks to face Zerafa for some time. Now aged 40 (41 in April), GGG is currently 42-2-1(37) and his last win came in April of 2022, when he stopped Ryota Murata in Japan.

It’s unknown how much GGG has left now but maybe he will like the idea of again taking a fight, a lucrative fight, overseas. How much money would a Zerafa fight down under earn Golovkin? How good a fight would Golovkin-Zerafa be if it did happen? How many wins, if any, has future Hall of Famer Golovkin got left in him?

Zerafa is a nice little fight for GGG in his retirement from the top level. He might even fail to stop him, Zerafa is a tough fella, who is reasonably quick on his feet.
I wouldn't pay for it, but I feel it is good matchmaking for this stage in Golovkin's geriatric period.

I mean if zerapha can win this then him vs tszyu would be a madness in aus. 90,000 in a stadium, on in every pub, and good times by all.

Think old man GGG is still far to good for zerapha unless he gets the povetkin strain of covid in the lead up.

If current form is anything to go by ggg destroys Zerafa inside 3-4 rounds. Not sure Zerafa did any favours of selling this fight, even in Australia, with his last performance.
