RIP "The Bionic Hand" Gerrie Coetzee

I would like to inform the boxing community and the world that former WBA Heavyweight Champion Gerrie Coetzee had passed away from lung cancer at the aged of 67.

Very, very sad news indeed...and RIP Champ :salut:

I lived in South Africa for a gap year and the Boksburg Bomber was well-loved by all South Africans.....

....and Gerrie did something pretty special which was being a big, white Afrikaner dude from a conservative corner of the country who was never an Apartheid puppet and who just let his fists do the talking. That deserves heaps of respect.

He had some class and whether folk were Xhosa, Indian, Zulu, White English, Mixed Race or a "Dutchman" they liked what Gerrie did in the ring for South Africa.

Bloody sad that both Gerrie and Corrie - two guys who were big disruptors on the HW scene - have both gone.
