Broner-Redkach, Farmer-Bey Set For February BLK Prime Boxing Event In Atlanta

Adrien Broner will revisit old business on a new platform.

The former four-division titlist is set to make his BLK Prime debut, which will come versus Ivan Redkach. The oft-postponed welterweight battle has once again made its way to the schedule, due to take place February 18 in Atlanta, Georgia. The show will also feature another bout that has been stuck in limbo. Former titleholders Tevin Farmer and Mickey Bey will collide in a ten-round lightweight battle in the evening’s co-feature.

Both bouts were formally announced Saturday afternoon at CHI Health Center in Omaha, Nebraska, the site of the Terence Crawford-David Avanesyan WBO welterweight title fight atop a BLK Prime PPV event later Saturday evening.

Cincinnati’s Broner (34-4-1, 24 KOs) has not fought since a twelve-round, unanimous decision win over Jovanie Santiago last February 20 in Uncasville, Connecticut. That bout was his first since a loss to Manny Pacquiao in their January 2019 secondary welterweight title fight, which sold roughly 400,000 units atop a Showtime Pay-Per-View telecast.

His upcoming bout with Redkach marks the first of a lucrative three-fight deal between Broner and BLK Prime, which was formally announced on October 25. The fight itself was previously in the works on both sides of the pandemic, once eyed for 2020 and again sought for last January. Neither date materialized, with Broner instead facing Puerto Rico’s Santiago, whom he outpointed over twelve rounds.

Interestingly, Redkach—a Ukrainian southpaw fighting out of Los Angeles—will return to Atlanta for his second straight fight. His last appearance came under dubious circumstances, losing to Regis Prograis last April 17 in what was ruled a technical decision at the time but changed to a technical knockout after a successful appeal by Prograis with the Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission.

The defeat was the second in a row for Redkach (23-6-1, 18 KOs), who previously dropped a twelve-round, unanimous decision to former two-division titlsit Danny Garcia. Their January 2020 bout—which headlined a Showtime card from Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York—saw Redkach initially get away with biting Garcia during the ninth-round of their welterweight fight, but later met with a suspension as handed down by the New York State Athletic Commission.

Redkach previously won three straight fights, including a sixth-round knockout of former two-division titlist Devon Alexander in June 2019.

At his best, Broner long served as one of the sport’s most watched fighters. His polarizing personality drew more attention than his in-ring achievements, where he has won major titles at junior lightweight, lightweight, junior welterweight and welterweight.

Broner’s last win in a title fight came in October 2015, when he stopped Khabib Allakhverdiev in the twelfth and final round of their vacant WBA ‘Super’ junior welterweight title in his Cincinnati hometown. His first title defense ended at the scales, when he missed weight ahead of an eventual ninth-round stoppage of Ashley Theophane in April 2016 in Washington, D.C. He is just 2-2-1 in that time, with out-of-the-ring troubles slowing his activity to a crawl.

Broner was due to return to the ring on August 20, where he was to face fellow former titlist Omar Figueroa atop a Showtime tripleheader in Fort Lauderdale, Arizona. The 33-year-old boxer withdrew from the event just prior to fight week, citing mental health concerns since resolved as he has resumed training camp in Florida.

OK, done some research, seems they are a lot like DAZN - they promise a one off monthly subscription, then put most of the content on a PPV on top of the subscription
Great.
And Broner signed a three fight deal for $10 million.
They are going to lose their arses over that, how dumb are they?

$4 a month USD.
And like DAZN the decent stuff is PPV on top of that. For example a cruddy mandatory like Crawford vs Avanesyan was $40 USD :o
So like I said, they are going to lose their arses on a 10 million 3 fight deal with Broner

Oh yeah, they got backing alright :TU:
My point was more that they will lose on the ten million 3 fight deal with Broner. He is way past any real relevance and you can't bank on a guy with so many issues.

You almost want to tell him not to push so hard in case he gets piles
Maybe get a stick or a screwdriver in there and break it up a bit or try and hook it out?

It almost seems like this matchup was supposed to happen before, and didn't or something.

I don't know.

Broner-Redkach BLK Prime PPV Event Now Scheduled For February 25 In Atlanta

Adrien Broner will have an extra week to readjust to fame.

The forthcoming BLK Prime debut for the former four-division titlist will now take place on February 25 in Atlanta, one week later than the previously targeted February 18 date. As previously reported by BS.com, Broner will face Ivan Redkach in a welterweight bout atop a BLK Prime Pay-Per-View event. A reason was not given for the date change, nor was the venue specified though State Farm Arena—the home of the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks–is available.

The show will also feature a battle between former titleholders Tevin Farmer and Mickey Bey in a ten-round co-feature.

Both bouts were formally announced on December 10, hours before the Terence Crawford-David Avanesyan WBO welterweight title fight that headlined the inaugural BLK Prime PPV show from CHI Health Center in Omaha, Nebraska. All four fighters were present for the event, with Broner briefly joining the broadcast to discuss that event as well as his own.

The defeat was the second in a row for Redkach (23-6-1, 18 KOs), who previously dropped a twelve-round, unanimous decision to former two-division titlist Danny Garcia.

Broner has won titles at junior lightweight, lightweight, welterweight and junior welterweight in that order.

Meanwhile, Famer and Bey find a new home for their oft-rescheduled clash.

The two were previously due to fight on May 21, first in Accra, Ghana and then relocated to Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The fight was then canceled due to the untimely death of UAE president Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahyan on May 13. A mandatory period of mourning forced the cancellation of the show.

Farmer-Bey was then rescheduled for August 12 in Prescott, Arizona. In a bizarre development, the fight was canceled hours before the show after disgraced promotional outfit Bigger Than Life Entertainment was unable to guarantee funds.

Philadelphia’s Farmer (30-5-1, 6 KOs) has not fought since losing his IBF junior lightweight to Joseph ‘JoJo’ Diaz in January 2020. The unanimous decision defeat ended his 17-month title reign in which he made four successful defenses.

The inactive stretch for Bey (23-3-1, 11 KOs) has been even longer. The former IBF lightweight titlist last fought in December 2019, when he dropped a ten-round, split decision to George Kambosos Jr. preceding the Aussie’s eventual lightweight title reign. The 39-year-old from Las Vegas by way of Cleveland, Ohio held the IBF 135-pound title for ten months before vacating in July 2015.

Adrien Broner: “I’m One Of The Greats Of All Times”

“I’m not just one of the elite; I’m one of the greats of all times. When I’m done, I’ll be in them books forever,” said Adrien Broner to the Last Stand podcast.

“I’ll be champion again because I know what it takes. I know how to go that extra step. I know how to buckle down and get focused and lock in. I haven’t only did it once. I’ve done it four times. Like I said before, just keep watching, and next year will be a big year.

“Of course, I would. If Nate Diaz is down to do it, I’m down to do it. It would be huge. We could have some fun,” said Broner when asked if he’d be interested in fighting former UFC fighter Nate Diaz in a boxing match.

I mean he will be in the books forever. That's true.

But the Books tell a different story than he's telling that's for goddamn sure.

It’s a strange one. I get DAZN overpaying fighters initially as they’re looking to build a subscription service. It’s brand awareness and if they get a subscriber then the lifetime value of that person could be quite high.

This appears to just be one off PPVs of fights that are ok but certainly aren’t PPV worthy.

I’d imagine they lost plenty on the Crawford show and will lose a fair bit on the Broner shows too. Not sure what they’re actually trying to do/expecting.

The thing that raises my eyebrows is Broner is unreliable, erratic, old, has mental issues and walks around way too heavy. All of this is well documented.
Now 10 million for 3 fights is some serious money. Why try and build a platform with a guy who's career is winding/wound down?
And one with so many issues?
The risk factor is phenomenal, and he doesn't even have any trinkets or rankings :maybe:
If you were to build a platform, and had a lazy ten million for one boxer- surely you would get a guy on the way up, one that is a gym rat, makes weight, stays out of trouble, wins fans by being entertaining in the ring, and doesn't have multiple legal cases hanging over his head?
Or, you could have Adrian Broner :maybe:

Broner Seeks New Opponent For Feb. 25 BLK Prime Event; Redkach Out Due To Promotional Dispute

Details remain murky, though the heart of the matter is a business disconnect between Redkach and promoter Joe DeGuardia. Redkach told Boxing Scene that he was prepared to fight for free and has demanded his promotional release from DeGuardia.

“Take $35,000 out of my purse or take everything but release me to fight,” Redkach demanded to DeGuardia in an email exchange, with a screenshot of that portion shared with BS.com. “I need your answer right now.”

DeGuardia has not publicly addressed the issue but has acknowledged that Redkach very much wanted to face Broner (34-4-1, 24KOs).

However, there is concern that a deal was reached between BLK Prime—whose representatives were not available for comment—and Redkach’s immediate team without DeGuardia’s involvement. Efforts to resolve that matter has led to a series of public outbursts by a clearly frustrated Redkach, who has not fought since April 2021 and will now have to sit out even longer.

“He's a greedy devil,” Redkach said of his promoter. “He didn't do anything for this fight for me he wanted to make all the money on me. I gave him all the money he still wanted BLK to pay him more.”
