Ringside Charitable Trust
Having a bit of a belated read of the Boxing News Christmas edition, it sounded incredibly poor that all of the major UK based boxing promoters completely ignore the only registered charity in the UK to help ex-boxers. I think it says a lot about them as individuals in my opinion. Greedy is one word!

I started a thread on this last month and only got one reply, which probably tells its own story!

Re: Ringside Charitable Trust
Sorry, yes I wondered if this has already been covered. It does seem a little like the promoters get quite an easy ride with boxing fans. Any old rubbish goes on PPV repeatedly. But not supporting this charity seems a particular low. It’s really not like they couldn’t make some provision every big promotion. I’d imagine it would be tax deductible anyway!Boxerbeetle wrote: ↑20 Jan 2023, 09:32 I started a thread on this last month and only got one reply, which probably tells its own story!

Maybe the promoters object to the way it's run? I don't think that BTW.polecateddy wrote: ↑20 Jan 2023, 09:35Sorry, yes I wondered if this has already been covered. Re: Ringside Charitable Trust
I’m sure they can think some reasonable sounding excuses for their inaction. I just think they’re all quite greedy characters cut from the same cloth really. Just showing themselves up and fairly assured that it won’t effect their boxing business in the slightest.keithmoonhangover wrote: ↑20 Jan 2023, 09:52Maybe the promoters object to the way it's run? Re: Ringside Charitable Trust
I think if they start supporting then they make think they’re acknowledging there’s a problem with boxing. I.E. CTE through the long term impact of taking punches to the head.
It sounds stupid but I think a lot of them bury their heads in the sand a little bit.

Re: Ringside Charitable Trust
It’s interesting brainstorming what thoughts these seriously wealthy promoters might be pondering - so far we have they might not like how the charity is run and that they may feel it highlights the long term danger of boxing on the brain, which might be bad for business. And I suppose also my less reasonable point that they are all probably quite cut-throat and greedy individuals by character.maverick23 wrote: ↑20 Jan 2023, 10:06 I think if they start supporting then they make think they’re acknowledging there’s a problem with boxing. Re: Ringside Charitable Trust
It certainly gets a lot of coverage in Boxing News but we've never heard why the promoters don't want to contribute. Maybe someone should ask them directly?
Playing devil's advocate, I wonder if:
They think they pay the boxers already so why pay for them again after they've blown their cash
There is already a care system in this country that takes care of people in this way
If they've got dementia, what difference would it make if they were around boxers as they wouldnt know who was who or what was what
I'd love to hear a promoter respond, two sides to the story and all that....

Re: Ringside Charitable Trust
Matt Christie bangs the drum for the charity and always points out that none of the major promoters ever contribute or get involved. In his position it should be fairly easy for him to ask the question of them, so I’m not sure why he hasn’t yet?veriton wrote: ↑20 Jan 2023, 17:37 It certainly gets a lot of coverage in Boxing News but we've never heard why the promoters don't want to contribute. I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure they've previously refused to comment. I'm with Polecat and Maverick for the likely reasons behind that.milpool wrote: ↑20 Jan 2023, 17:44Matt Christie bangs the drum for the charity and always points out that none of the major promoters ever contribute or get involved. Re: Ringside Charitable Trust
There are hundreds if not thousands of similarly worthy causes, the fact is that there isn't enough effort and money to go around and solve every problem.
I have heard it being heralded on the Boxing News podcast so there is some support. Whilst it would be nice for the BBBoC, boxing promoters etc to put some kind of regular funding contribution in place, there is certainly no 'should' about it.
There could be a number of reasons why they haven't.
When RR&C was first setting up I actually contacted them to do a fundraiser for them and never heard back.
