Well if you think about big upsets in boxing, and there have been plenty, beforehand it’s almost impossible to give the other guy any chance, or see how they can win.

Berb is 1/9, Yarde 5/1

At least he’s not going in with a peashooter like Butler, he can definitely hit. And surely they’ll be watching the Joe Smith fight, to see exactly how not to go about it.

Hopefully somebody can remind Jordan about that when Artur smashes Yarde to pieces.
So if Yarde wins or is at least competitive, does that make you a “clueless muppet” as well?

I mean your obviously entitled to your opinion and maybe you turn out to be correct, but from reading a few of your comments, your just dismissing this fight as if Yarde brings zero to the table.

I wonder if you have actually assessed the fight fully, or do you think Yarde is just going to come running straight into punches with zero defence like Joe Smith..

Yarde has youth, power, natural athletic ability, an ability to switch guards and yes a decent chin as displayed by eating 10rds of Kovalev right hands until finally going out from exhaustion/inexperience.

I’m happy to go on record and say he can win this fight. Unlike Kovalev/Arthur 1 (second fight he neutralised it with a high guard) he is not going to be facing a taller opponent with obv reach advantages and a good jab to start with. He actually matches up quite well with Artur physically, which is why I think this is a short war and both will get hurt in the process.

If he employs a good solid guard like he did with Arthur 2 with his hands up, blocking/parrying the punches and can get Beterbiev moving backwards, he will be able to get his own work off as although Arthur boxes well and has good movement off the back foot, his punch selection becomes only really the bombing right hook over the top.

Either way, this is an excellent fight and come the day after I think there will be plenty of interesting discussions on here.
Do you think Yarde is anywhere near the same league as Beterbiev? Yarde isn't near the level of Smith Jr or Gvodzyk both of whom Beterbiev battered. Yarde's last 3 opponents are Koykov, Arthur and Alex Theran none of whom are anywhere near this level. What makes you think he should be fighting a P4P fighter like Beterbiev?

If they had tried to build Yarde with some higher calibre opposition rather than the stiffs they've fed him, i might take it more seriously. Has he even fought a top 10 LHW? Let's call this what it is, a blatant cash-out and a chance to get Beterbiev to the UK for a payday.

For Yarde's sake let's hope he doesn't get too badly hammered because there are good fights for him out there, just not this one.
In recent years, Beterbiev has fought Radvioje Kalajdzic a guy with no recognisable wins. Enrico Koeling another euro operator, also with no wins against a name and clearly a pillow puncher with only 5 KO wins on his record- he took Artur to the 12 round. Adam Deines lasted to the 10th round - once again, no big wins.

Closer to home our own Callum Johnson, whilst a powerful puncher (similar physical dimensions to Yarde) dropped and badly rocked Beterbiev. He could possibly have got Artur out of there if he had tried to really jump on him. Callum’s best win is probably Frank Buglioni...

Anthony Yarde is more than qualified to take this fight. Is he in Beterbiev’s league... accomplishment wise/boxing experience etc obviously not.

He is 38 though, he’s just come off surgery/an injury and he’s also had 300 amateur fights. The wheels can come off at any time and Yarde hits like a truck.

He lost, but Yarde went to Russia against the Champion Kovalev and went to the 10th, and probably only lost out to inexperience. Kovalev said he had never been hit harder, despite winning the fight.

Smith Junior was literally running head first into Artur punches. There was no jab, no defence and clearly no game plan other than to try to bumrush him with zero technique. Yarde has not faced anywhere near the calibre of opponents that Smith has, but I don’t care what anybody tells me - Yarde will be much more competitive than he was.

As for the money, yeah I’m sure it’s a fat payday, but not as much as if they had worked something out with Buatsi. They clearly fancy they can win and get those belts which would lead to mammoth paydays. Whilst he obviously starts underdog, I can see how they can do it for the reasons I have already stated.

Yarde best hope is for David Haye to predict a Beterbiev KO.

Far out!

Yards in for a horrible beating. Might as well go for broke from the opening bell cos he's not gonna outbox or outlast Beterbiev.

That's exactly what I thought, and would do if it was me.
Which is why I'm sorta temped to have a teensy flutter on Yarde, he does have a bit of pop and no one is invincible.

It’s hard to make a case for Yarde given how fit, fast and hungry Beterbiev appears to still be.

I remember being convinced that Yarde was going to take some sort of cunning game plan into the Kovalev fight, but he pretty much turned up and boxed the way he would against anyone else.

This surely had to be a short fight though, with Yarde crowding Beterbiev and trying to clip him with something significant during some heavy exchanges. Either way, rather him than me.

But this is no Inoue v Butler. Our boy has a chance.

I got 9.03 just on a win at the NZ bookies. I bet you can find better odds, but I can't bet outside my country unfortunately.

There aren't many vaguely competitive matches on the card, the main event, the flyweights, then (at a push) the elder Itauma's bout. The rest is all prospect vs journeyman stuff.

Doesn't mean it's the odds sadly !
It's really not that hard to see Yarde winning is it ? Normal huge outsiders don't have any realistic way to win - Yarde does bigtime.
But Bert is really, really good and you gotta pick him.

I don’t know about the undercard, but the main event is a terrific fight. It’s going to be an electric few rounds, however long it lasts. One of the worlds most formidable champions over here, taking on someone who’s going to trying to take his head off.
Tris Dixon is an excellent pundit isn’t he.

Ex champion James Cook is a great addition to the Yarde team, no nonsense and he’s seen it all

Can't help but like Yarde, he seems a nice fella.

There are levels to this game though, and yes Yarde has a decent punch and if he can land it he has enough power to get a knockout, but surely that's his only hope. I'd say it needs to happen in the first few rounds too.

I'm not overly convinced Yarde is comfortable at the weight, but Biev is 38 and surely is past his peak. it is quite the intrguing fight, even though it looks a mismatch in many ways.
