The Czech's manager said, "you fancy a weekend away in London, you only gotta fight a chubby 18 y/o debutant...?"  :bag:

margaret thatcher wrote: 28 Jan 2023, 17:53 maybe when they find out instead of having to sell tickets and fight for free to get a win, they can make pounds just by covering up and going rounds. kind of like finding out the cold hard reality of the world you once dreamed of.

obviously if you're good enough to make it at a high level it's better to be a winner, but lower down it makes sense. pounds pay the bills, but wins only pay the ego for many pros
For U.K. paid losers, they'll actually stop getting work if they win. Kristian Laight and a few others mentioned in the book "Journeyman" that if they were to win, especially twice within a few months. They may go a month or two without even being booked for a fight.

So basically. They HAVE to lose to keep getting work.

Several of them straight up admitted to the fact that the fights are more or less fixed too. They were instructed before hand to "Give the kid the 'ol move about"

Basically. Move around. Lose the rounds. Get your check. Go home.

At what point does one become that kind of journeyman....

Ahh shite, another loss...okay I won't be a champ but I don't mind being beaten up for a few hundred quid a pop....
Lad I know has just turned pro with the sole goal of being a jman. They’re not stupid, they know what they’re doing and they’re happy for their little slice of the pie. It’s such an odd concept when you think about it, though. No other sport has an equivalent really.

i think moses has looked ridiculously talented as an am, and in those 10 pathetic seconds he did look very quick handed. hopefully they realize if they match him too soft ppl will talk more about how pathetic the match was than his ability

No doubt about it Karol’s opponent would have given it a far better go.

Both boxed. Both of 'em's last name starts with B.

That's 2 things.
Both lost their pro debuts by first round stoppage.
