Massey covered himself in glory taking Parker the distance and boxed a spirited yet skilled & controlled fight.

Parker had all the advantages and still managed to underwhelm.

I hope Massey earned well and gets some more opportunities, but at Cruiserweight.

I have thought for sometime that Parker was declining and I think this fight proves it.

Parker is now on the cusp of becoming a big name gatekeeper.

Any ambitions he has about holding a trinket again need to be arrested.

He's absorbed a lot of big shots from some heavy punchers and his chin is definitely not the level that it used to be. He's only 31 so I think he's probably about 5 years older than that in comparative fighter years. Might have to improve his defence if he wants to preserve his career.

Yes, I think you're spot on.

I've always had a soft spot for Parker and nearly always rooted for him.

I also thought he might have a bright future as he was one of the younger top tier HWs, but like you have said, he now seems older than his years and he certainly isn't a top tier heavy anymore.

I just hope he doesn't end up as a name stepping stone for up and coming heavies, but sadly, I can see that future for him.

Good thing for Parker is he has banked absolutely squillions, and if he wants to keep going well past his prime I doubt he will go into a journeyman/gatekeeper role, be better of bringing other faded guys to NZ for big showcase fights.

That’s not to say he doesn’t have a few more losses in him, anyone willing just to get in there and rumble with Joyce is going to take some losses.

I’d like to think he can reach world level again in the little gap when usyk, fury and Joyce hangs em up or fade, which is only a couple of years away. To still be fresh enough then he would have to cherry pick a bit for the next 18 mlonths.

If Ruiz loses to Wilder then I think Parker Vs Ruiz 2 would be a decent fight to see where they are both at but he couId get a lot of credit for some cherrypicked wins which look good on paper but shouldn't cause too much problems like Ortiz, Kabayel, Demirezen etc. If he was to stay busy and mix those in with a few local wins over the likes Browne, McKean, Ahio, Opelu, Goodall and Terzievski he would earn well and keep himself in the mix for mandatories if and when the belts inevitably split. However, given that Sky put him against Massey in his last fight, I don't think they will manage him very well and will probably just crush cans.

Surely Whyte II on sky ppv is the fight…. But for him to get that Whyte has to fail to get wilder, AJ, DDD, usyk, ruiz and chisora III…. But they are all long shots.

wouldnt be surprised if ortiz, kabayel, or demi beat him tbh. never been too impressed with joe and i think he's prob on a downward trend now where even fringe guys are a threat. he's an old 31 and every guy he's faced in the top 25 has given him a rough night. he's had some fortunate judging and could easily have at least 3 more losses tbh

That's right. Never been sold on Parker either. He's an over-achiever.
