Some say father time is undefeated. But that's not true is it?

Look at Alien Hopkins. He was a higher weight boxer and was still beating boxers in their prime when he was in his mid to late 40's.

To me beating father time means you died of old age before you stopped being a top boxer.
That hasn't happened therefore father time is still undefeated.

Larry Holmes fought and decisioned Butterbean in 2002, at the age of 52, going on 53.
Mike Tyson fought in that exhibition versus Roy Jones Jr in 2021, at almost 55 years old.

Hopkins didn't beat father time, it just took longer before father time caught up to him than it does most boxers. If I remember right, he was knocked out of the ring by Joe Smith which ultimately was the end of his boxing career.

I agree with the statement that no fighter has ever and will never beat father time.

Even Floyd lost to father time. He just so happened to retire from boxing before father time took enough away from him that he could no longer box at the high level we expected to see from a master boxer like FMJ.

Oscar De La Hoya is an interesting case:He turns pro at 19, wins his first world title at 21, is involved in 27 world title fights between ages 21 and 31, makes a comeback 2 years later and then spends his last 2 fighting years as a very solid Junior Middleweight. At age 34 he gave a prime Floyd a harder fight than probably anybody other than Castillo or Maidana. Very few fighters can be at the very top of the sport for 10+ years consistently like that, and the ones that do tend to show a lot more wear and tear than Oscar did. His speed, power, and (underrated)iron chin mostly held up through the aging and jumps in weight. The only bump in the road here is that Manny retired him in about the most brutal way imaginable short of a one-punch knockout, but basically every longevity-gifted champion goes out on their shield like that unfortunately.

Age is definitely NOT just a number, especially after you reach 40. Some fighters were able to adapt their fighting styles. Bernard Hopkins was able to maintain prime over 40, but his experience and dirty tricks played big role in that IMO. Still, fighting brutes like Kovalev and Smith at age of 50 is madness

He is, if I’m not mistaken, the first and only boxer of Turkish descent to win a world title. He is from Germany but I’m imagining that’s something a lot of Turks are proud of, given what happened with Yildirim. Also I recall the consensus being that he was robbed against Hernandez, and he was already in his 40’s by then damn! I should check out some of his fights.
