Viktor Vykhryst vs Lenier Pero - Showtime February 11

Post by Perkin Warbeck »

Ukrainian heavyweight 6'5" Viktor Vykhryst is age 30 and 11-0, while Cuban heavyweight 6'5" Lenier Pero is age 30 and 8-0. Both have strong amateur backgrounds.

This is a rare matchup between talented up-and-coming heavyweights.

Lenier Pero represented Cuba in the 2016 Olympics. He had an extensive and highly successful amateur career that spanned over 100 fights, including multiple wins over countryman Frank Sanchez and a loss to Filip Hrgovic.

Viktor Vykhryst had wins over Frazer Clarke and Vlad Sirenko in the amateurs, and two losses to Joe Joyce.

A nice matchup. Vykhryst has been tracked better so far, he gotta be favored, yet overall it brings intrigue.

Vykhyst about got killed by Kiladze, no way he's a real prospect. Never seen Pero fight and I expect him to KO Victor "Faust"

Interesting start for the poll. 5 options, each gets 1 vote.

Both guys are super heavyweight that can box and in the case of Vykhyst punch fairly hard.

Pero was ko'd badly by Hrgovci is the 2016 Olympics. Watch it! He is quick haded.

Vykhyrst is the European amateur super heavyweight champion. He has shown as a pro usually good counter puncher for a heavyweight.

A good match up between prospects. I like VV via TKO.

Fair enough for taking challenging fights but I bet neither gets the proper credit for the win as neither are well known names and most people won't be aware of their amateur backgrounds or have followed their pro careers. High risk low reward but that's what the fans want to see more of.

Sad reality is people get more credit for chinning molina than fighting another prospect…

Hopefully the loser keeps at it so that the win can grow retrospectively.

4-4-3 after 11 votes. That's the matchup we need today.

Yes. It's an even matchup, definitely more interesting than the many mismatches we have been seeing.

On paper it's good.
I haven't seen either yet but I know pero somehow managed to get a bauble ranking with less than 3 fights.

Very weird but not unexpected from the alphabets whichever one it was.

WBA. They had him ranked because he won a vacant WBA Fedelatin belt

they were both mediocre, really unimpressive stuff for guys with those amateur credentials

pero does almost nothing all fight and gets hurt, vik patty cakes and air punches then gets finished like he's made of glass

yeah this is my first look at Pero, I wasn't impressed at all despite him winning. Never was impressed by Faust and this of course doesn't help, this was a worse quit than Dubois

Did they really say Pero beat Sanchez 4 times in the amateurs? That's hard to believe with how sneaky and odd (and hard to watch) Sanchez is, and how basic Pero looks. Obvioulsy there's more to Pero than this fight as he has over 200 amateur bouts but he must just have Sanchez's number or something.

it's amazing both of them were hot shot amateurs, the quality was pretty dumpy tbh. aside from that finish you would've thought pero was kevin johnson's twin brother or something, and faust just folded way too easily in a fight he was winning, reacted like he'd never been hit before

The way he reacted I thought the glove had scraped his eye. If it was the body shot delayed reaction, he could have taken a knee, taken some time to recover, and made it out of the round still with a chance to win a decision. But he totally shut down.

He reacted the way he did to the low blow earlier, like there was a foul. Pero didn't know what to do for a second.

A fun fight, but both of them looked mediocre.

Pero at first looked good, while he was blocking Faust's punches and working the body, but since the 3rd, after he received a left hook, he was losing rounds. Still managed to score the money punch on the body.

Faust was outworking Pero well, but a lot of his punches were lazy, ineffective, while he didn't give a sh1t about defence at all. He was opened for both head and body counters, and eventually he got what he had been asking for.

Hell, the guy could at least try to take a knee, but he was turning his back, which was fairly ruled as a surrender.

Anyone have the highlights? Or is it not worth watching?

Good win on paper for Pero, even if it's a bad performance he can make up for it with an improved performance and win next time out.

not really one id watch already knowing the result, highlights probably the better route so they can trim out all the fat.........pero looked like a gun shy journeyman for most for it and is a 30 year old with a deep amateur career, i dont know how much he will improve

even with how weak the top 15 is at the lower end i'd be very surprised to see him become any type of serious contender, i think his value will be more in testing prospects or guys who have been can crushing, kinda like he did here

see his olympics fight where he's wrecked and stopped by hrgovic .....that's probably what happens if he steps up vs a legit contender. he was rocked to his boots in the third by vik already and i think a guy like ajagba might ktfo him
