RIP Ron Lewis

Post by garethhop »

Devastating news for a married father of two young children who also was one of the very best guys around this sport.

He was rarely wrong.

That's terribly sad news. A really great journalist, and seemed like a lovely man, too. My condolences to his family.

This is horrible news.

A really welcoming, considered, gentle human.

Jesus what terrible news. I clicked on the Joe Bugner thread with trepidation and despite the news of his sickness was relieved it wasn’t news of his passing but then to scroll down and see this was a real gut punch.

I enjoyed his articles and whenever I’d occasionally see him interviewed he struck me as a quiet gentle soul a bit of an anomaly in the world of boxing journos who tend to be self promoting loudmouths these days.

R.I.P and condolences to his loved ones

Really sad news. My first mentor in my stint as a writer. I used to send him my work for feedback, he always took the time to send well thought out replies.

Top man. May he rest in peace.

Very sad news indeed.

He was a top writer and kept the flag flying for some big fight build-up and reporting when so many other Brit newspapers decided they could do without someone on the boxing beat full-time and just give us more and more football.

I suspect Lewis - who wrote some belting features - kind of showed the editors that a good boxing report, interview or profile of a fighter was still worth paying for.

Personally, I was still happy to buy The Times and liked the fact that I was going to get some big fight reporting.

Shocking news, an unimaginable loss for his family. He’ll be missed by the boxing world too, always came over as a journalist with real integrity, unlike Davis and Bunce and others who’d align themselves with whoever they happened to be standing next to, Ron was the real thing and a true pro. And Loved by a lot of people.
