In researching the career of journeyman Leroy Caldwell, who passed away last week, I found this story in the Los Angeles Times.
"Heavyweight Mircea Simon, long advertised as unbeaten since turning pro last year, joined the ranks of the beaten, although several days after the fact.
"Simon, a silver medalist at the 1976 Olympics...was announced to have fought Leroy Caldwell of Las Vegas to a draw in Thursday night's featured bout at the Olympic Auditorium.
"However, in reviewing the fight, the California State Athletics Commission discovered an error in the tabulations. Recalculated, the scoring shows Caldwell the winner by a split decision.
"Simon is now 12-1-1"
This story ran on Oct. 4, 1979, six days after the fight.
