Spinks could outbox the likes of Baer quite handily. Puncher's chance for Max.

Yeah I feel like Spinks would make Baer look like a clumsy putz here to be honest with ya. Lesser boxers than Spinks did frankly.

Baer always has that chance of some 1 shot thunder that could really do a number on Michael, but I think it's a good bit more likely that Spinks pretty much blanks him and wins every round.

Not out of the question Spinks could stop him late either.

Spinks by decision or Baer would have a puncher's chance like Dr. Duke said as Baer would suprise Spinks by nailing him flush on the chin with his big right hand between the mid or late round stoppage win.

If we are talking Prime for Prime where it was somebody's absolute best performances ever I'm leaning towards Max Baer to win the fight because let's be honest Michael Spinks experiment at the heavyweight division entirely depended on the fact that Larry Holmes was looking older and slower which is why he made the jump in the first place.

Max Baer could be absolutely brutal and relentless and was one of the hardest punchers ever and he had a hell of a chin and despite his playboy reputation when he seriously had his head in the game this was a man who could go 20 rounds if he wanted to, and his professional record shows he did just that.

Very hard for me to imagine Michael Spinks being able to stay away an entire 15 rounds from a man who was all over Primo Carnera like white on rice. And let's face it when Max Baer lost the title to James Braddock he basically threw the title away because he wasn't really interested in being the heavyweight champion of the world he just wanted the money and the women that came along with it.

For me the more intriguing matchup would be Michael Spinks versus James Braddock.

Homicide Henry, that's a good reason why you chose Max Baer to beat Michael Spinks.

I think Spinks wins that matchup almost always.

Perhaps, but it is worth noting that James Braddock did fight for the light heavyweight title against Hall of Famer Tommy Loughran and though he lost he ended up winning the heavyweight title, so there are parallels in a way between James Braddock and Michael Spinks.

Braddock was a solid light heavyweight who basically became a heavyweight because he knew he could have more success in a higher weight class, and one has to wonder out loud how good he could have been had he not been in the Great Depression and constantly fighting on short notice oftentimes injured.

Probably the best indicator of Braddock's chances against a Michael Spinks would be his match against John Henry Lewis, who is one of the best light heavyweights there ever was. I don't think there is any dispute about that. So I figure if James Braddock brought his A+ game against Michael Spinks in a series of fights Braddock would probably end up winning 40% of them at least.

I believe Mike Spinks would have outboxed Baer en route to a decision win. I don't think Baer was agile enough to score often against the heavyweight version of Spinks, who at that stage of his career, was a hit-and-run fighter.

Baer, a pretty good puncher, would have his moments. But Spinks would duck and run as much as necessary to prevent Baer from landing much leather.

I would pick Baer if he were agile enough to bang Spinks with a succession of power punches. But I don't Baer could do that.
