John Conteh vs. Dennis Andries

Post by scorpio83 »

15 Rounds Light Heavyweight Bout

Either Conteh would out-box Andries behind his long jabs and right hands to take a decision or would the Hackney Rock would pull a miracle comeback by cutting Conteh off the ropes and working on the body and head to take a decision or late round stoppage. What do you guys think and who do you got?

I can't see Andries winning this fight-Conteh wide on points.

This would actually be a very good fight.
Conteh wins on points.
A tough, hard fight. No knockdowns.

Conteh wins assuming he's in his prime and in peak condition mentally and physically. I can't say if John wins by stoppage or decision, but he'd win. He was definitely better than Andries.

On his best days, Conteh was a quick, nimble, brilliant boxer. Very elusive. His hand movement was dazzling.

Too bad Conteh's prime was short-lived. Because booze, the broken hands, and bad management decisions, Conteh's career was derailed during those years he should have been in his athletic and physical prime. What a waste of talent.

IMO, Conteh was at his best up through his TKO over Len Hutchins in 1977. After that, he was permanently in varying degree of decline as a fighter.

Never bet against The Hackney Rock.

But this might be the time to do it......Conteh more than smart enough not to have a tear-up, keep on the move and basically use the jab to pile on the rounds.

Of course, not getting into a brawl was easier said than done when Andries was about.
