The fight occurred in Rome, Mazzinghi's home turf. I remember Cassidy saying something weird happened. Did the Italian referee give Bobby a fast count, or something like that?
I also recall a photo of this one in Ring Magazine. Mazzinghi and his people are smiling, while Cassidy - looking appalled - is arguing with the referee.
Facts, or insights?
Sandro Mazzinghi KO2 Bobby Cassidy (1968) - what happened?
Re: Sandro Mazzinghi KO2 Bobby Cassidy (1968) - what happened?
Newspapers reported nothing unusual about the bout. Cassidy was dropped and offered no resistance after he got up and the ref stopped it shortly after they resumed boxing.

Dude, are you sure it was Mazzinghi? I seem to recall a pic in a magazine of Cassidy being restrained and him screaming at his opponent after he himself was stopped on a cut, but the opponent was Jose Gonzalez. Just making sure.1173348 wrote: ↑16 Feb 2023, 19:29 The fight occurred in Rome, Mazzinghi's home turf. I remember Cassidy saying something weird happened. Now that I think of it, the photo could have been the Ortiz fight, not Mazzinghi. It clearly showed Cassidy yelling at someone after a stoppage, and he's being restrained too.scartissue wrote: ↑16 Feb 2023, 22:07Dude, are you sure it was Mazzinghi? The Ring Magazine article dated from 1975 or so. It was titled something like "Bobby Cassidy's Sentimental Journey...."
