Just watched the fight highlights. Great stoppage by Ben Davidson. Wood would have been a sitting duck for another couple of big shots, when he was really shaken.

I can appreciate Wood's frustration but it was the right call: nothing worse than a corner braver than the fighter.

I think Davison done the right thing, Wood was gone.

It's amazing how much criticism Davison is getting. People like Bellew and Froch should know better as well.

The referee work was terrible. He had no idea where Lara was, he was inches from Leigh Wood, only asked him to put his hands up which immediately dropped and was then trying to get him to get his hands up again when the towel came in. He also didn't ask him to walk to him. There was 12 seconds left at that point.

The corner retirement was spot on.

well wood clearly stumbled when he got up, he was shaky and seriously hurt. hardly any time left, though enough for a couple more shots. i was surprised the towel came in, wood will be thinking he came back vs conlan to win and had been boxing well vs lara, so why not give him another 10 seconds at least

i'd have expected him to be ko'd by lara soon after tbh, i think he was hurt worse vs lara and facing a more damaging puncher,........but we wont know

Davison was trying to console his fighter don’t try and make more of it than it is.

The unfair scrutiny on Davison is masking how irresponsible Michael Alexander was in allowing Wood to continue. Given how unsteady Wood still was after the eight count had been administered, would people have complained so vocally had the ref waved it off?

Wood was in a bad way and Lara is a dangerous fighter. It reminded me of Kid Galahad vs Kiko Martinez. But for Davison’s intervention, Wood was getting splattered.

Will be interesting to see if the fighter-relationship continues after this, or indeed whether other fighters give Davison a wide berth due to his caution. But undoubtedly he saved Wood from being badly knocked out.

Except its not undoubted that Wood would have been badly knocked out. He could equally have fiddled his way through the last few seconds, recovered further during the break and then gone on to win the fight, thus setting up huge paydays in other defences.

That's all gone thanks to Davison flapping. The rematch clause also bogs down the division further.

He could have been in hospital from any number of punches, that's the inherent risk you take on when you enter a boxing ring to fight.
