Hatton Mugged in China?

Post by The Law »

" Report: Hatton mugged!

WBA welterweight champion champion Ricky Hatton has reportedly been mugged in China. According to the British tabloid The Daily Mirror, "The Hitman" was walking alone in Shanghai after becoming separated from his friends, and was accosted by a gang of thugs who, after a scuffle, made off with Hatton's £4,000 Rolex watch. "

wow, my mate interviewed him yesterday, probably just before the alleged mugging :o The interview can be found at http://www.fightfan.com

Hatton's Chinese takeaway

Neil Davey

Would you mug this man?
MegaStar says: ‘Possibly not the best idea they’ve ever had.’

International fame can be a good thing. There must be hundreds of places in the world where a world boxing champion like Ricky Hatton could go and not be troubled, thanks to his hard-punching reputation.

Sadly, for Hatton (and his insurance company), Shanghai isn’t one of them.

The undefeated WBA welterweight champion and Manchester City fan, was in Shanghai to watch the Blues’ pre-season tour. After a post-match drink, Hatton was making his way back to the hotel when he got separated from his friends while talking to some other City fans.

The Rolex-wearing Hatton was then left on his own and found himself cornered by some local thugs. They threatened the boxer unless he handed over his £4,000 watch and a gold bracelet.

“They obviously had no idea who he was,” a friend of Hatton said, “but he didn’t retaliate because he had no idea if they had weapons.”

“Whenever he goes abroad, he usually wears a cheap Man City watch, but he forgot it. He’s a bit embarrassed because he knows he shouldn’t have been walking the streets alone.”

It’s the sort of incident where we’d normally take the mick, but in this case, we’ll make a small exception.

I was so shocked when I heard this story, but thinking about it, I'm not surprised.

Hatton just does not look like a world champion boxer (apart from his nose). :o

He just like another tubby English football fan, that just happens to wear expensive jewellery.

If they find the mugger maybe SN can get him as a future opponent for Calzaghe.

What does a world champion boxer look like then, as opposed to just a boxer.

China is the world's biggest manufacturer of snide rolex's. The Chinese certainly have an eye for the real thing when they see it. They may have heard of Hatton Garden but perhaps not Ricky Hatton. :TU:

Seriously though, glad to see that Hatton only came away with a bruised ego and a little embarrassment.

Damn Hatton looks to have put on shit-loads of bad-weight. In the interview, Ricky said he weighed about 12st, 168lbs. Judging by the photo of him, I'd say it was more than that! What do you guys think?

Anyway, SMEG idiots whoever mugged him. Imagine if they tried that with someone like Tyson! He would probably batter them in the street!

However, I do agree that Rolex watches are extremely overrated. I prefer Cartier watches, but I have not even got one! :D

That's an old photo, but you can bet he looks similar to that right now.

This smacks of a publicity stunt. Not long ago we had the equally unlikely story of a total stranger punching Hatton's lawyer in New York. If my memory serves me correctly, it was shortly before Collazo was announced as Hatton's opponent.
Has Hatton's next opponent been confirmed yet? If not, watch the news break soon.

I think that would be considered a high risk option for Calzaghe. The mugger has a proven history of aggression, and therefore might hit back…

It is indeed. I think this photo amongst a few others started the Ricky Fatton name.
