well if this fight was as close as comms are making out, seems unlikely magsayo will win with 2 deductions against him. i only saw from the 8th on.......brandon doing his usual swarm and swat, magsayo much less active but landing most of the notable shots. brandon with much better body language though, even when magsayo lands better he looks all sulky and deflated, while brandon smiles

brandon ud...........judges score it wide. wins with tons of chin, stamina, and success in smothering magsayo
i worry for him as he gets older and heavier though, not a good style to move up the weights with, as his bro found out. but right now he's hard to beat..the nickname is perfect

Sean gibbons is a distraction in the ring at the best of times...watching go bonkers in the Magsayo corner was a real treat.

Thought it would be a fairly comfy decision for Figueroa after seeing scores beforehand but it was nip/tuck most of the way, never scored but looked a close Figueroa win, thought both deductions to Magsayo for holding were harsh, it was fought at close quarters all night and barely any clinches on the main, both guys happy to trade up close, plenty landed from both men, Magsayo I'd say landed the more eye-catching shots but Figueroa busier and more workmanlike

Magsayo probably wouldn’t have beaten Russell jr. had it not been for the injury.
He got his name out there. Won a belt, lost it immediately and now lost again.

agree, all the officiating was in brandon's favour, harsh deductions to magsayo and cards were generous to brandon, seemed 7-5 or even 6-6 fight to me after catching the rounds i missed. fig very busy and with endless energy, but very messy and nearly every flush shot was from maggyhandsofstone wrote: ↑05 Mar 2023, 06:47 Thought it would be a fairly comfy decision for Figueroa after seeing scores beforehand but it was nip/tuck most of the way, never scored but looked a close Figueroa win, thought both deductions to Magsayo for holding were harsh, it was fought at close quarters all night and barely any clinches on the main, both guys happy to trade up close, plenty landed from both men, Magsayo I'd say landed the more eye-catching shots but Figueroa busier and more workmanlike

boxing Scene had it 115-111.. that wide?
Mag lost 2 points.
One of the round he won.
Should have been 115-113.
That’s a close fight.

Yeh although it was a good fight fought with the right spirit, there wasn't many talking points, just a good solid contestRuthless-RKO wrote: ↑05 Mar 2023, 13:17boxing Scene had it 115-111.. that wide?

A good fight, but a bit frustrating scoring and refereeing. It was an even fight in reality, the cards were too damn wide and deductions were criminally unfair.
Without deductions it would still be Figueroa on the official cards, but I would have a draw. Figgy was too late in the fight. It's good for him, that he's so big and durable. He eats a lot of punches, but doesn't feel them, he overwhelms his opponents with the monstrous physique.
In any case, the referee was a dork. You deduct from Magsayo for simple clinching, not an excessive one, while he fights f8cken Figgy, who lean on ya, pushes ya, can hit your back of a head. How come?
