Boxers You Like More Now they Are Retired?

Post by KiwiRider »

Any boxers you were not a fan of when they were fighting, but are now after they retired?
And what changed your opinions?

Marcos Maidana.
I was never much of a fan. I always thought he was a bit of a brute, and not exactly a proponent of the "sweet science"
Now he is long retired, I look back on some of his fights fondly, a fairly quiet guy who came into the ring and gave it absolutely everything.
I also love this clip showing the lead up to the Broner fight. AB's outrageous behaviour, and Maidana just keeping his cool all the way through - until the fight, where he gave it hell! :bag:

Enjoy your retirement champ, I'm a belated fan. :D

Roberto Duran.
My earliest boxing memories are from the times of the Fabulous 4.
I loved Hagler's mean look, Hearns' jab and right hand, SRL's flashness. I didn't know too much of Duran around then other than a slightly podgy looking sweaty haired guy with loads of attitude. It wasn't until years later, after watching and reading about him, I discovered just how good a fighter he was and that 'fk you' attitude was what drove him. I probably like him the most out of them all now, although Tommy's always been a great favourite.

Barry Mac, couldn't stand him as a boxer with his ducking of Azumah Nelson. Now I enjoy his punditry and comments on boxing etc he talks a lot of sense. :TU:

I was a young teenager when Floyd vs Manny happened(lol how was that 8 years ago) and I recall not being a super big Floyd fan. I was not the most active boxing fan at the time in general but I remember preferring Pac-Man. Watching Floyd’s older fights, like against Corrales, really gave me more appreciation of him.
